i just love this hood of an antique truck i found high in the mountains wilderness of Montana. the parts of the truck are so old, they are falling apart, but most of the truck is intact. Must have been there a hundred years !! wonderful rust and colours. the hood has hinges, panels and handles and it is art itself. it is large with 4 hinged sections and weighs at least 100 lbs. this is a macro shot of one of the handles used to lift the hood as well as engine vents. these electric palm trees line a street in Billings Montana /

this is a real Conk ~ which is a fungi that grows on dead trees. after cutting it from the tree, leaving it to dry for several months, i painted this “cave-style” painting of Antelope using dry-brush Acrylics. Much of the conk i left unpainted and natural.

Diamond Lake is a volcanic crater lake located about 5400 feet elevation high in mountains of western Montana and the Lolo National Forest. This pristine wilderness lake is teeming with trout, brooktrout, a variety of frogs, waterfowl, and so much wildlife including cougars, grizzly bears, black bears, coyotes, bobcats, marmots, squirrels, etc as well as bald eagles, golden eagles, red-tailed hawks and just to numerous to list all the wildlife. it is written that this volcano erupted about 10,000 years ago, and then this fresh water lake was formed. it is spring and creek fed. there is a large creek that flows down the mountains, spills over a magnificent waterfall dropping about 200 feet and then flows into this lake. there are many springs all around the lake that just spring out of the ground and sides of these mountains and flow into this lake. on the other side of this lake is another waterfall that is gorgeous solid rocks and the water falls about 75 feet and continues on down the mountains. this is one my favourite places to go canoeing and fishing. usually there is no one else around for miles and miles. it’s heavenly. the water is crystal clear, and when i am in the canoe, i can see deep into the lake and watch the trout swimming about in the underwater plantlife. it is fantastic !! When there is a heavy snowfall in the winter, the following spring melt causes this lake to rise considerably. Many of the trees which are growing near the shoreline will fall into the lake. some of theses trees from more recent years are still floating and they drift about the lake continually. other trees which have been in the lake for many years become water-logged and sink to the bottom. this creates a magnificent habitat for the fish and other life This area is maintained by the State of Montana Fish & Wildlife Department and United States Forestry Division. There is no overnight camping allowed near this lake. but there are wonderful day camp sites with awesome fire pits and benches as well as separate restrooms for men and women (and of course children : )) Featured in the “Forests” group November 2008

“Empowered by a Dream” is my self – portrait painting inspired by a dream. / Original painting by Karon Melillo d’Vega 2000 I dreamt this image ~ upon awakening from my dream, i got out of bed and walked over to my art studio and began painting this ~ 5 hours later, i set down my paintbrushes and i was satisfied that i had captured the essence of my lucid dream. Painted during a difficult period of time in my life, upon awakening from my dream and this vision, my soul was uplifted and i was empowered and strengthened by this dream. Featured as Bits and Pieces Group Avatar / November 23-29, 2008 When i set out to arrange the items in this work, i chose the Irish Claddaugh ring for its historical symbolism of “Fidelity, Love & Trust” This ring is Hallmarked 10K and has a small faceted Diamond prongset within the heart. From my collection of vintage designer signed jewelry. The symbol of the ring: the Heart wears a Crown and is held by two hands. / Tradition is that when a woman wears the ring with the hands facing away from her own heart, she is available. When a woman wears the ring with the hands facing toward her own heart, she is “taken” “In Love ~ In Friendship ~ Let Us Reign” Royal Irish Claddaugh rings have been crafted and Hallmarked in Ireland since 1689 / The traditional wedding ring of the Irish since the 17th Century, the Royal Claddagh ring is today worn by people all over the world as a universal symbol of love, loyalty, friendship and fidelity, and of their Irish heritage. For love, we wear the heart. In friendship, we wear the hands. And, in loyalty and lasting fidelity: we wear the Royal Claddagh crown. / dried red roses: a gift from my sweetheart and the vintage songsheet of the song / “Love and Devotion” and vintage lace brought together in my design of this card to represent the Love and spiritual bond of two people
