Heart Built on Tears These are individually placed waterdrops on a CD. The colors come from how the light is refracted on the surface. It’s really easy to arrange shapes since you can just drag the drop with any sharp object and it will stay perfectly spherical and not loose any water :) So this is a bit feminine, but boo double standards :) / These are the descriptions I give on dA —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Location: Portland, OR / Date: August 30th, 2008 / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- Camera: Canon Digital Rebel XSi (450D) / Lens: Canon Macro Lens EF-s 60mm f/2.8 / Focal Length: 60 mm / Flash: Built-In Shutter Speed: 1/60 sec / Aperture: 2.8 / ISO: 400 / — MY PHOTOGRAPHS ARE COPYRIGHTED AND NOT FOR USE OF STOCK, CANNOT BE REDISTRIBUTE, EDITED, AND/OR COPIED WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. The poster edition of the original vector drawn photographic print series I made earlier this year. All VHS covers were hand drawn from original images (it took ages). The rap (Abridged): / Do you remember when your VCR broke and you decided not to get another because they were sort of old technology? DVD was replacing VHS and you could probably buy the shows you wanted as season sets on DVD soon. Have they released those shows yet? Maybe you started watching different stuff because they didn’t release them? I don’t know, but many films aren’t being replaced on DVD at my local video shop when the VHS copy dies … I can’t find Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure in any DVD rental place… and find me The Last Star Fighter while you’re looking. I loved that movie! Things look right on VHS, The Dark Crystal, Star Wars, Alien, Thomas the Tank Engine, Sooty, all better on tape, darker, warmer, grainier. We’ve lost something here, it’s changed, it ain’t cool. detail sample: /

One of my assignments this semester was to design a DVD menu for either a movie (thus creating a different design from the one in use today), game or book. I chose to make a design for “The Giver,” which was one of my favorite novels as a young adult. I struggled a lot with this design, because the book has so many themes and important symbols, that it was difficult to choose which ones to put emphasis on. I chose a rather unsaturated color scheme, as the book features a mostly black and white world, where people can no longer see color. I found black and white to be too harsh for a menu, really, so I opted for the unsaturated look. Only two vibrant colors are used on the menus (there are three: a main one, as seen above; audio options; and scene selections), blue and red-orange, two colors which are mentioned often in the book. Considering this is the first DVD menu I’ve created, I’m satisfied with the overall appearance of it. Personal Website: Random Selection of Work:

Pirate dvds, Spain abounds with them, inferior quality, terrible sound. All the guys who sell them are Senegalese. Taken outside the indoor market in Valencia.

Same guy whose accomplice has just spotted the police. They just pull up the four corners of the sheet and vanish.

The DVD didn’t quite make it past the cover design, lol. The guys were too busy with other projects. Still, I think I did a good job on the design for it.

While sitting at my computer I happened to look down at all the / discs that were laying around it and was stunned to see how the / light reflected off them in a spectrum of colors, hence came the / idea for this photo/design. Technology is so much a part of what / we do.
