Sometimes waking up at 2:30 am to get to Rocky Mountain National Park for the sunrise and first light has it’s payoffs….and this was one of those shots. Shot in Estes Park, Colorado, thoughts welcomed! / —John / -—-——- / _See more on my website at jdebordphoto.com _

Captured on an early morning at Denver’s historic Washington Park. Standing here taking in the scene, was just amazing, sheer serenity….so utterly quiet I didn’t even hear the Goose swimming by. Amazing that in such a large city, nature thrives, never knowing that this peace is surrounded by so many people. And for once, the world just seemed like such a better place….. —-—-—-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. Captured on the eastern plains of Colorado at sunrise…call me a sucker for a good sky! / —-John
Cherry Creek Reservoir State Park, outside Denver, Colorado….it’s pretty amazing the tranquility one can find in nature so early on a summer’s morning….and here I sat…on the shoreline, tripod 1/2 in the water, 4ND and my CPL bolted to my 18-70….watching this whole scene play out.. Yeah, talk about a relaxing moment and just a nice time kicking back and unwinding….this was it! And yes that is a Pelican in the water…”a Pelican in Colorado???” you say? Yes, migratory birds….they come up all the way from South America and spend a few months here…wild huh? Why here where there is no Ocean is beyond me, but they call us home for awhile. I will say this—they are without a doubt the most skiddish of any bird I have ever seen….they didn’t cme within 200 feet of me, and when they saw me driving up in my car, from 500 feet away, they turncoated and made way fast lol Well hope ya all like it, let me know what ya think! —-John
A Morning Stroll At the Lake Every now and then we almost miss a shot, and luckily this time I happened to turn around as I was walking back to my car from shooting the sunrise and had this scene greet me. Captured at Cherry Creek State Park outside of Denver, Colorado, the light seemed to almost dance among the trees. Processed in HDR
Captured this morning out my second story Hotel Hotel window outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado….sometimes photo opp’s occur in the oddest and unlikely of places! Thank goodness I had my tripod in the room and the camera ready to go already! Not to mention the window actually opened up! So click away I went, bracketing and firing off almost 140 shots….this one I feel is one of the best. Hope ya all like it! / —-John

A New Years Sunrise While not a sunrise in the traditional sense of the word, but it sure seemed to be with the sun hiding behind the clouds, back lighting and glowing everything around me in a colorful haze in Moraine Park inside Rocky Mountain National Park. It was nothing but stunning! Quite the way to start and kick off the New Years I think! Processed in Photomatix HDR with 3 RAW files, then output through PSP 10, , shot on my 5D and Minolta 18-200 DT using a Singh-Ray CPL, and then hiding behind the car to shield myself from 80 MPH wind gusts lol The crazy thing is, the haze in the background, is actually from the snow that was falling and whipping around. Hope ya all like it! / —-John
A Sunrise Over Golden Captured overlooking Golden, Colorado from Lookout Mountain / I went ahead and set the scene up and was thinking “Oh ya, maybe I should try using my filters!” and wallah, this is the outcome! It was a cold morning to say the least, and once again my damn tripod was like a flagpole one licks when it is below freezing lol You have to love the feel of cold, icy steel on bare skin! It is so much fun! NOT! lol But I think it was pretty much worth it. Hope ya all like it! / John Minolta 5D / Minolta 18-70 DT Lens / Singh-RAY CPL / Cokin P002 / Dynatran Tripod / And a LOT of hot coffee! / Raw—Processed through LR, find output thru PS and PSP
I return to this exact spot a lot. I have to say it is one of my favorite places to take photographs. This canyon is one of nature’s great cathedrals. It’s hard to explain the feeling that comes over you when you are standing there staring out across the water…Especially during this time of year, when there is nobody else out there. You can have the whole place to yourself, or share it with someone special.

One of my biggest influences in art, without question, is English romantic landscape master painter J.W. Turner I discovered him while studying at art college, and I fell in love with his work. When the traveling Great Masters of Art show landed in Denver at the museum, I almost slept out for tickets, knowing that among Rubens and Van Dyck, Turners work would be there. There is nothing like seeing Turners work in person, nothing. It is simply stunning and inspiring and very motivational. So, I suppose without question that you could certainly say that whole shot was inspired by him. I wanted a shot that would really reflect the influence he has had on me as an artist and as a photographer specifically. My painting style goes without question, but trying to capture a photograph in teh same style as a master landscape painter is a different beast entirely. Did I succeed? You be the judge. About the photograph itself: Captured on the northern Colorado plains on an old country road, the old tree, though long and dead, seems to almost still hold some life as the sky paints the end of the day slowly falling behind the Colorado Rockies. Processed in Lightroom, Dynamic Photo HDR and final output through Photoshop. I hope you all like it! John
Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! Captured in rural Boulder County, Colorado….let me just say this was honest to God unbelievable to photograph. I had to handhold these shots because of my bum knee and well, the lightning was going crazy right above me. But I managed to get some dang nice shots off. This being one of them. I am really happy with this one, I debated about a square crop, but in the end I figured why the heck not, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right folks? The Sound of the Sun / Embrace of the Everlasting “It makes one all right, / though you hadn’t thought of it, / A sound like the sound of the sky on fire, / like Armageddon, / Whistling and crackling, the explosions of sunlight booming / As the huge mass of gas rages into the emptiness around it. It isn’t a sound you are often aware of, / though the light speeds / To us in seconds, / each dawn leaping easily across a chasm / Of space that swallows the sound of that sphere, / but If you listen closely some morning, when the sun swells Over the horizon and the world is stil / and still asleep, / You might hear it, / a faint noise so far inside your mind / That it must come from somewhere, / from light rushing to darkness, / Energy burning towards entropy, / towards a peaceful solution, / Burning brilliantly, spontaneously, in the middle of nowhere, And you, too, must make a sound that is somewhat like it, Though that, of course, you have no way of hearing at all.” ~ The Sound of the Sun by George Bradley Sun Pillar / Sunset near Chena River Lakes Recreational Park / Wilderness of North Pole Alaska / From my collection: / Emerquinox Spirit of Alaska / Emerquinox is a word I coined when I combined the words Emerge and Equinox.
