This shot was taken in The Water Run on the Coastal Walk in Royal NP just south of Sydney Australia. It was a wild and stormy evening and the sun just started to emerge from the clouds behind me as it was setting. The blue tint to the water comes for a very short period around sunset – you can just see it in any moving water at this time in the right light but the camera really picks it up. Canon 30D / Tv: 1/6sec / Av: f/13 / ISO: 100 / FL: 28mm

We enjoyed the mellow dusk settle on this perfect anchorage with pints of beer in hand, outside the renowned Forge inn, (officially Britains remotest mainland pub). The tiny scottish hamlet of Inverie is inaccessible by road, only by sea or a demanding walk of many miles. We had crossed to the unspoilt area of the knoydart peninsula by ferry from Mallaig for some amazing walking (see the series of 3 pics on heartbeat ridge . The sights on arrival were just captivating with wildflowers galore, deer roaming gardens, peacocks roosting (see bird in a tree and I also got the precious shot of morning gems. There had been fires up there a year before. its why the trees look this way, I found it interesting and started to take the trees against that sky.

Pastel on Colourfix sanded paper (burgundy) – 50cm x 35cm My first painting completed in 2009! Apollo Bay is a beautiful fishing village along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. We spend a week there each year, and it is nearly time for us to head back there again. The harbour is really beautiful at dusk. I did a couple of colour sketches sitting on the edge of the harbour on this balmy summer evening, just as the lights were starting to come on. I also took some photos for later reference. Sunset at the Curracurrang, just south of Wattamolla, Royal National Park. This is a wild and very rugged section of the Park with amazing rock formations and striations, none of which you can see here because it’s late dusk. But this evening had one of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve seen here in the Park. I don’t know why but good sunsets here are few and far between but when they come – carumba! / The sea wash looked pearl-like against an opalescent sky with the cliffs stringing in between like a necklace. Whoops, waxing lyrical, better stop. Two blended exposures – one for the sky and one for everything else. Taken with the old Canon 30D / Tv: 1.6secs and 1/4sec / Av: f/8 / ISO: 100 / FL: 28mm

*Sunflowers and Colorado Sunsets * Revisiting the Sunflower fields I miss so much, a magical place on the eastern plains of Colorado like no where else, a place one day I hope returns. As the front rage of the Colorado Rocky Mountains dances with the setting sun, this scene seemed something out a paradise lost, the kind of thing you only ever read about. On this day when shooting the sunset here, I shot over 400 shots and came back quite a few other times as well. Well worth it I would say! Another capture of a lovely old barn not from from my home in Montgomery County, Maryland. We’ve had another remarkably wet summer … we don’t often see greens like this in July and August!!! Hand held mage taken in the early evening of July 9, 2009 with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter 1/250, aperture f/8.0, exp .33, iso 500. Two duplicates created in Photoshop to +1/-3 then processed in Photomatix to create this hdr image. A little tweaking in Painter for blending. Levels, dodging and burning in Photoshop.
