This shot was taken before the sun came up.. I went to check out the sunrise, but a storm had blown in and there was very little colour other than blue on the eastern facing coast.. so I headed over to the west coast and took some photos at Sugar Loaf Rock.. I’m very happy I did as I just love this shot! These were the actual colours captured by the camera, I haven’t photoshoped the colours at all, I’ve just adjusted the white balance down somewhat in order to exaggerate the blue that was already there.. love this shot! 3 minute exposure @ f10, ISO100 / ND400 + ND8 + ND4Grad All comments appreciated Paul Pichugin / http://www.paulmp.com.au
Taken an hour before dawn. A five minute exposure allowed the one nearbye floodlight to illuminate the posts of the jetty.

A walkway leading down to the beach at Dunsborough in Western Australia.
At the carpark of Canal Rocks, near Dunsborugh in Western Australia, walk upwards away from the beach (towards the toilet block) then branch slightly away from the path to the right – there you will see this view. Once you have filled your eye with the water crashing on the rocks, wander back down and follow the path arround to across the little narrow wooden bridge and see the actual Canal Rocks at their best. One of the most photographed seascapes in Western Australia, Sugarloaf Rock is in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. This impressive rock formation dominates the coastline near Cape Naturaliste. You can see experienced rock fishermen taking up the challenge from the edge of the rock – but the powerful swell is not for amateurs. This weekend’s weather was furious, and the display against this rock formation was just awesome to watch. Not the best shot in the world, but not too shabby considering the conditions. Hope you like ;o) Nikon D90 / Nikkor 18-200mm at 29mm / 1/1250 F6 ISO 200

Point Piquet is beautifully situated on Geographe Bay, close to Dunsborough, Western Australia. It is sheltered from the ravages of the Indian Ocean by Cape Naturaliste with the result that it is seldom very rough. I should add that the threatened storm didn’t materialise and within half an hour there wasn’t a cloud to be seen.
No. 9 in the collection – Water Movement Canal Rocks are close to Dunsborough, which is 3 hrs drive south from Perth in Western Australia From Dunsborough take the road towards Yallingup, then turn left when signpost for Smiths Beach and then take the turning marked for Canal Rocks Here you can spend many many hours just watching the sea break over the rocks / This is a dangerous piece of coastline and not to be taken lightly There is a wooden bridge crossing one of the canal channels, where the water surges and swirls in a variety of colours Gingerly take the eroded path down between the boulders to sea level, being careful not to get caught by the waves which unexpected sweep over the rocks and watch the fishermen casting into the fast running water, or sit and watch the waves break There are several rocky outcrops and channels which are worth exploring, but it is not for the faint hearted Camera:Olympus FE240 compact / Featured in Sea Group / Featured in All Water in Motion Group
Close to Dunsborough on the turning to Yallingup, a sign sends drivers to Smiths Beach and Canal Rocks. The canal is a natural break in a rock formation, where the sea pounds through with joyous abandon. There is a very sturdy narrow bridge across the quieter run-through of the water, from which this photo was taken. The colour of the water changes from white to dark blue to tourquoise to green and then the gentle blue as it reaches the bay on the other side of the bridge. Growing up in Margaret River as a kid, with the rocky beaches and pounding surf along the coastline. I always use to think we would drive to a tropical island when we went down into Meelup for a swim. The north facing beach is sheltered from most of the swell and waves from the Indian Ocean, but when the waves come through…it is a sight to behold.

The coastline surrounding Sugarloaf Rock in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park in Western Australia. The rock itself dominates the coastline near Cape Naturaliste. A beautiful area with rugged outcrops it is worth the drive. To get to this point drive onto Sugarloaf Rock Road west of Dunsborough, which is itself approx 3 hours plus south of Perth.
