Strong wind in desert brings memorable moments when thousands of sand grains strike you face, eyes, ears, stuck in your hair, under the clothes… / But also you hear Song of the Wind. It is different in desert. Every single grain run at each other, adding squeaking noise to the wind whistle. / Every dune becomes unclear and fuzzy…there no strict lines anymore…
Nothing in the world is as simple as desert. Lines and curves, strict shapes, blue sky, clear horizon, heat, same colors… / but it is the simplicity that is so attractive!!! You are all alone in the whole world, you can dance, sign, lay on the sand – do anything. It clears your mind and soul. Port Stephens, Stockton Bight NSW, Australia

Umpqua Light was my first lighthouse, captured many years ago on film when I camped overnight in the adjoining Umpqua Lighthouse State Park. This view was taken on a clear December noon. The lighthouse rises above the cliffs overlooking the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area at Winchester Bay, just a few miles south of Reedsport. The tower, made of stuccoed brick, rises 61 feet and has a distinctive red and white flash pattern. First lit in 1894, the light was automated in 1966. This image was taken on December 21, 2006, using a Nikon D80 DSLR fitted with a Sigma 28-50 mm tele/zoom lens set at 40 mm. ISO 100, f /10.0, 1/400 second.
Tent was opened for air and gave me the impression of an eye with the desert as it’s eye ball.
