I received a very surprising phone call … late on the Sunday night before the exhibition opened. My painting ‘The Sisters’ had sold to another artist who was hanging the work for a week long exhibition featuring 16 artists work from the South Island of New Zealand. I was so thrilled! Also a huge thank you to Kathibrook from Canada who bought two more of my prints on here…that makes 3 for you now Kathi…(Menage a Trois, Solace and The Sisters). It means a great deal to me. On the home front, spring has most definitely sprung here. Ducks have been parading their ducklings in the garden, one had 14 of the fluffy little things. / Yesterday my cat bought one in…and dropped it at my feet. Fortunately it was unhurt. I picked it up and carefully held on to it for half an hour…until I heard mother duck and managed to reunite them. Happy ending for a change. Camelias, tulips and daffodils all well in bloom now…little blue clouds of forget-me-nots and bluebells just starting to burst too. Oh…and I bought some oil pastels through an auction site yesterday, so am looking forward to experimenting and getting messy. well back to my brushes ~ Creative vibes to all ~ Anni :)

  • More ducklings!

Remember the ducklings I saw yesterday morning? (see here) Yesterd…

Remember the ducklings I saw yesterday morning? (see here) Yesterday I wanted to take more pictures during lunch, but when I went back to the pool I could find them and thought somehow they made their way “home”. This morning on my way to work I saw them again! That means they really are living in the concert hall courtyard! Guess they were hiding during lunch yesterday. They were more upclose yesterday, but atleast this time I could get them all together (though they were moving so fast these pictrures got blurry). I came back during lunch, and found them gathered at the back (the little blobs in the shadow behind the planter) They walk around, but wait!... Aww, this one was left behind, and was trying so hard to jump out! It was so funny to watch it step back (I mean paddle back :P) and bulding some momentum, swimming quickly towards the corner. Eventually it made the jump. These little creatures are young, but they can swim fast! (I didn’t recharge the camera last night, and the battery was running out. Apologies for the poor quality) The photos above where from the underground path that looks into the courtyard. Later I decided to go outside and look over the courtyard: And now I know where they live, someone must have provided that plank for them! Overview of the courtyard: paddle paddle, quack quack I gave a few comments today, but now I’m really tired; didn’t sleep well last night. I’ll try to catch up later…

Began with the sale I was notifed about at 12:30am :P Then went to bed. On my to work I got off at St. Andrews station, walked through the underground path which passes the Roy Thompson concert hall courtyard. The courtyard has this pool, and today look what I found there: This pool is very shallow; about 15cm deep perhaps. A few times this year I’ve seen ducks swimming in this pool, which was unusal enough, but baby duckings?! I wonder how they can get home, they would have to walk quite a distance away and cross some roads in order to reach the closest “natural” body of water! Luckily I had the camera on me; though I got it out pretty late; earlier they were more bunched up together. I arrive at work, got onto RB and replied to some comments. I check the status of my entry in the New Challenge. Initially, right after they starting taking votes, my work was ranked in the 50s, and in a few hours rose to the 20s. However the day after it dropped to the 130s! (I almost died…). It remained around there for a few days, but today it suddenly improved and now it is in the 60s. I’d feel safer if the challenge just closed now so I could keep it there; big drops can happen in a few hours :P Finally a new feature! Love Birds which I just uploaded last night, got featured in the Stillness Speaks group! I didn’t foresee that the moderator was going for a bird theme today; looks like I uploaded the right thing at the right time!

a song that describes me and my life exactly.. / i know its old, but it’s me. I learned the truth at seventeen / That love was meant for beauty queens / And high school girls with clear skinned smiles / Who married young and then retired / The valentines I never knew / The Friday night charades of youth / Were spent on one more beautiful / At seventeen I learned the truth… And those of us with ravaged faces / Lacking in the social graces / Desperately remained at home / Inventing lovers on the phone / Who called to say “come dance with me” / And murmured vague obscenities / It isn’t all it seems at seventeen… A brown eyed girl in hand me downs / Whose name I never could pronounce / Said: “Pity please the ones who serve / They only get what they deserve” / The rich relationed hometown queen / Marries into what she needs / With a guarantee of company / And haven for the elderly… So remember those who win the game / Lose the love they sought to gain / In debitures of quality and dubious integrity / Their small-town eyes will gape at you / In dull surprise when payment due / Exceeds accounts received at seventeen… To those of us who knew the pain / Of valentines that never came / And those whose names were never called / When choosing sides for basketball / It was long ago and far away / the world was younger than today / when dreams were all they gave for free / to ugly duckling girls like me… We all play the game, and when we dare / We cheat ourselves at solitaire / Inventing lovers on the phone / Repenting other lives unknown / That call and say: “Come on, dance with me” / And murmur vague obscenities / At ugly girls like me, at seventeen…
