My origami calendar I folded the mother duck out of trace paper around the time I saw ducklings on the way to work; can read about that here. I can’t remember how big the paper was; I believe 13×13mm. The two little ducklings in the centre were folded from 6×6mm pieces of trace paper while the little one at the back was folded from a 5×5mm piece of trace paper. This photo was captured at the beautiful duck pond between my neigbourhood (Kanonkop) and Dennesig *in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa. A favourite place for parents with small children. The children can feed the geese & ducks here. Lots of kids try their luck at fishing here too. Kanonkop – Translated to “Cannon Hill” referring to the days of the Anglo-Boer War, a site of the British Concentration Camp graveyard is present in the area. Today its a leafy suburb. / Dennesig – So named after the conifer trees scattered through the suburb. Image copyright: Mariaan Krog 2008. May 1943, Eastern England Finally taking a break from the constant bombing missions over Germany. The crew remains in good spirits and morale is high. Today we got some downtime and managed to have a baseball game between guys from the 457th Bomb Group and the Escort Fighter pilots. Got this shot of Lt. White “Lightening” sliding onto home plate and winning the game. Umpire Dave “Goose” declares White to be safe …. Had many beers and smokes that evening and rasing the losers. Tomorrow will be another Milk Run to Braunschweig.

Today I went out for a walk with my Mam and Dad and we ended up at a local Lake called Longlands Lake, and it really is beautiful! I live about 5-10 minutes away, and have only been once before, but that was years ago, and I can’t remember it being so interesting! Apart from the ducks and the swans there were so many different flowers and plants. It’s an amazing place to go for photographs! Black and White version here

Took this photo in St Jame’s Park. THis kind old lady was feeding the ducks and all the other birds, I can’t help but notice that she has a serene look on her face and she has a pair of lovely hands, which I hope I have highlighted in this photo.

Those who have not flown south find their land (figurative) taken over by the ice. Where will they go and what will they do? Most of them will sleep it seems. Since the 1920s, North Chagrin Reservation has been a special combination of outdoor recreation areas and wildlife sanctuaries. An interesting feature of the reservation is Squire’s Castle. Built at the turn of the century by F.B. Squire, it was to serve as the gatehouse of his country estate, but plans for the remainder of the estate never materialized. Located in Mayfield Village, Willoughby Hills, and Gates Mills, the reservation includes a nature center and nature education building, a number of trails and picnic areas. Sanctuary Marsh and Sunset Pond are both popular areas to observe waterfowl. The reservation is also home to Manakiki Golf Course, located off SOM Center and Eddy roads in Willoughby Hills.
