I couldn’t resist these two as they bathed in the pond. Taken at Langstone Habour on Saturday 12-1-08.

She is a beautiful colourful thing which makes me think she is a he. Her feathers are so detailed and she has a lovely reflection following her around. And on top of all this it looks like she is swimming on a lake of mercury. This was taken in a local open space area near to where I live. It was in Whitewebbs Woods near Enfield, England Thanks for looking. This guy is so beautiful .. I got photos of him in a wetlands park that I usually go but have never seen them there before The Wood Duck or Carolina Duck () is a medium-sized perching duck. A typical adult is about 19 inches in length with an average wingspan of 29 inches. This is about three-quarters of the length of an adult Mallard. It shares its genus with the Asian Mandarin Duck... / The adult male has distinctive multi-colored iridescent plumage and red eyes. The female, less colorful, has a white eye-ring and a whitish throat. Both adults have crested heads. When swimming, wood ducks bob their head back and forth in a jerking motion, which makes them easy to spot. /

May 1943, Eastern England Finally taking a break from the constant bombing missions over Germany. The crew remains in good spirits and morale is high. Today we got some downtime and managed to have a baseball game between guys from the 457th Bomb Group and the Escort Fighter pilots. Got this shot of Lt. White “Lightening” sliding onto home plate and winning the game. Umpire Dave “Goose” declares White to be safe …. Had many beers and smokes that evening and rasing the losers. Tomorrow will be another Milk Run to Braunschweig.

The blue of the duck feather has always held a particular beauty for me, but I only recently found a way to get it to come out in a photo. It requires a light to be directed from the right angle, and a camera that allows me to get my exposure reading from that specific part of the image. / I’m tempted to say that I had to catch it as it fell, but but that would be a lie… so this time I’m preferring to cheat instead :) ...I had the feather held there by a little clip that I removed with photoshop. Maybe next time I’ll go with the lie :) :)

Always one that can’t quite conform ….. You know what I mean Michael ! Female Wood Duck with her ten ducklings. Wood Ducks are pretty shy, so I was pleasantly surprised they let me get this close to them. The little fella sitting on top of the turtle just made my day, I guess it quite hasn’t learned about the dangers of being this brave ….. Probably best viewed in large format.
