Olympic National Park is one of my favorites because of its spectacular rain forests. A babbling brook flowing across moss-covered rocks afforded this photo opportunity.

Although it had been a place of worship for centuries, we must thank Bishop Maurice of Sully for the building of the present cathedral starting in 1163. By about 1345 the building was complete. With the Revolution the cathedral was dedicated to the cult of Reason, and the building was used as a storage area. Napoleon changed that having it cleaned up for his coronation. It was left to fall into repair again, until in 1841 Viollet-le-Duc organised work to restore the cathedral. It has remained almost as he left it to the present day. / Our guide made no mention of these statues which intrigued me. They were said to be from the restoration, and I do not know whether there were originally the same stories told at this place. It is amazing what you can do when you are determined. It was said that St Denis was martyred in C3 by decapitation at or near this site but he carried his head in or on his hands off to another spot where he decided to rest. That site is the basilca of St Denis some miles away, which has become the necropolis for many kings and queens of France.
