I caught this one flying overhead whist near Dubbo, Central NSW.
This pleasent view of the Macquarie River was taken looking upstream from the bridge at Troy Crossing, which is just downstream from the city of Dubbo, Central NSW. White cockatoos can be seen in the trees on the left of the picture.
This was taken from a point about half way between Dubbo and Minore Falls, looking downstream.
This experimental shot was taken looking uptream on the Macquarie River, between Dubbo and Minore Falls through the trees which lined it’s banks.

Dubbo – Western Plains Zoo Aug 08
I took this in 1983 in Dubbo, NSW, using slide film. I scanned it a couple of years ago and the slide had deteriorated big-time so it took a fair bit of editing to get it looking close to how it looked originally.
Watching 100’s of people come and go at the lion section of Dubbo Zoo paid off, after sleeping all day, they started walking around. When he stood over her, and both looked our way, I was in awe with the treat they were giving me for my patience! I hope you enjoy this one, Open Plains Zoo is well worth a look if your in the Dubbo area. Canon 50D, 325mm. Available Large!
A female lion, or lioness, prefers to hunt at night, as they have a massive advantage over many other animals, excellent night vision! They can basically stalk right up to their prey, and with minimal chase, capture them. Going straight for the throat to elimate noise and starve them of oxygen, making a quick kill. They also hunt at nights because it’s much cooler in their natural habitats in Africa. With other night predators around, making a silent kill is the key to a good feed. A pack of hungry wild dogs, like hyena, will take a kill from a lion, or even a small pride of lions. Canon 50D, 400mm. Open Plains Zoo, Dubbo, NSW.. Available Large :)
Show your love for a great place!
We had great fun watching this lion trying to get a piece of meat that the keeper accidently threw in the water at the Dubbo zoo.

Recent studies confirm the cheetah’s status as fastest land animal. The word “cheetah” is derived from the Sanskrit word citrak ya, meaning “variegated body Details: / Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mk II / Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM and Canon Extender EF 2x II / Exposure: 1/125 sec / Aperture: f/11 / Focal Length: 400mm / ISO Speed: 200 / Accessories: n/a / Date and Time: 19 October 2009 03.42pm
