In Richard Farson’s book, “Management of the Absurd”. He explores the paradox of the human affairs, the absurdity of life and the duality of the opposites that coexists. There is one paragraph that talks about this scientist with his “Valley of the Absurd” where everyday, he goes through the process of which he climbs into the “valley” to investigates if absurd ideas work. / / The duality of the opposites, love and hate, yin and yang, pleasures and pain, truth and falsity, good and evil, strength and weakness, light and shadow. We as humans flip from one extreme to the other, from one side to the next in a second. The attempt is to find the equilibrium, but first, we have to be aware that the duality coexist at the same moment, at the same time. When we are at one end, we easily slipped to the other, the key is how to find the fine line that is just in between and stay there. Maybe life is about striving to stay at that line, at that fine line and not cross over, to the extreme. That fine line must be where sanity is, maybe that’s why sanity is so difficult for some. Or maybe, life is about the extremes, that’s why its black and white and so that we can define it, characterize it, give it a name and know where we stand. Maybe the absurd part is when we stand at the fine line and recognize both ends at the same time and still function. Therefore, the only way to be sane is to be insane. Maybe since everyone is just abnormal and yet pretending to be normal, being abnormal is actually being normal. Maybe when we stop trying to be sane, we actually will have more sanity. No family is perfect, no matter how others want you to believe in their made believe ideal family, you will always find some skeleton. It is just basic human nature. Maybe once we stop looking for that perfect family, and accept that, we will start to appreciate everything that had went right with our family. Maybe once we stop expecting a perfect mate, and accept that, we will start to see all the perfectness in our mate. The absurdity of human beings is that we know its not perfect, but we will still be always looking and expecting, and that’s the absurdity we face everyday in life. / / Life is abit like how the scientist describe it, everyday you climb into the valley of the absurd, fully aware of the absurdity unconsciously, or consciously. And yet, everyday, we climb in and we climb out. The human spirit or hope must be the only reason for us to be sustaining those motions, as sanity or logical thinking probably will not even get you to climb in, and yet we do it everyday like clockwork. Or maybe is it just plain stupidity? We do things everyday without reasons, we just do it, as we hope, but we will always justify it with a rational reason thereafter. Sometimes, it just is, for our sanity sake, it is just ok to be insane, we don’t need to have the reasons. all views expressed are solely my opinions only
