  • A ruined farmstead above Beaver Dyke Reservoir in Haverah Park, North Yorkshire.

  • As a small break from Shetland, here is one from a year or so back taken from a hill road near the village of Wray (Lancashire) and looking underneath the blossoming hawthorn towards one of the ‘Three Peaks’, Ingleborough, (the other two being Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside) in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. / The combination of moor, hawthorn and drystone wall is a hard one to beat for me and especially so on a day like this. Thanks for looking, / Richard Tech detls / Nikon D200 / Sigma 17-35mm @ 17mm / f9 1/32s / ISO200

Rest a while neath the shade of the peppercorn / Sit here with me on the crumbling wall / Smell the ferns in the dell and the medow hay / baking in the warmth of the day / see you’re not tired at all Talk with me of what bothers you / together our minds may solve / the hurdles and missiles that assult anew / the riddles that plague and frustrate you / we’ll find solutions that will resolve and we shall have peace for the afternoon / and we shall have warmth in the night / and we shall be content with the lives we live / for you see the world is just right

  • Still with Mousa Broch but now the interior. More details of the broch can be found here / This one is actually taken near the top of the tricky stone stair that runs between the walls all the way to the top and if you are very, very lucky or go visiting on one of the night-time tours, you can experience one of the most memorable wildlife experiences – the sound of storm petrels ‘snoring’ in their drystone wall nests. / Believe me, once heard, never forgotten. The stonework has lasted some 2,000 years in some of the harshest weather in the UK and probably uninhabited for 2/3rds of that time – a testament to the builders’ work. Thanks for looking. / Richard Tech detls Nikon D300 / Nikon 16-85mmVR @ 16mm / 1/13s f5 / ISO640 / Silver Efex Pro for mono toning and CS4 (using an Orton filter technique to soften the image) Location / OS HU457 236
