Dead kangaroos lined the road, lumped like discarded costumes after a masquerade.
The vast nothingness, the harsh, beating sun, / The silence of an Earth, breaking all around,
Two kings held court by the river wide, / Within their kingdoms of green. / As time did pass, man tainted the land, / Water covered as far a…
A revised version of Two Kings, with many thanks to lightsmith and toxeth o’grady for their feedback on the earlier version. Any further feedback on how to improve would be much appreciated. Poem is a take on the Hume Weir and the dead trees that poke up when the levels get down as in current drought.
raining, / still raining, / still bloody raining….........
At Benwerrin Road, the air is still and humid. A few of a million raindrops have fallen. If you could see inside the homes of Benwerrin…
Short story
...Cloudless sky / Blue as far as the eye can see….
Mosquito spray renders a strange mood…
Sap bleeding hues..
Please also see sweetscent62 ’s beautiful “Bushfire” painting which this poem is proud to accompany. I live in rough mountianous terrian in one of the most bushfire prone areas in the world. With summer temperatures often in the mid 40s and strong winds – watching the sky for smoke is a constant subconscious summertime habit. However, bushfire is a natural phenomenon and some gum tree seeds do not germinate unless they are burnt by fire. We are surrounded by thousands of beautiful eucalypts of many varieties…I have seen them devastated by fire only to return stronger than ever the next year or two. We have also just come through a seven years drought and although gum trees are so hardy, a few didn’t make it.
“It has been bucketing down here. Flooding everywhere. Roof leaking like you wouldn’t believe”.
We walked the long paddock day after day / Praying to God to send some water our way
A poem telling it as it is for those on the land and those in the city during the recent drought
Blue sky, baking sun. / Two pidgeons stand forlornly, / In a dried up puddle.
When the rains do come as they surely will / Will the feed return? Are the seeds good still?
My good friend Jan is posting a trilogy of photos about how the great Australian drought has effected land in her area when I saw this one about the worst of the drought I was shocked and this poem came forth. If you want to know why Australia only has 20 odd million people – this is why! Most of the country looks like this of late! sure come on over and grab a plot of land – there is no water to truck in and none falls from the sky – Good Luck Mate! / We must stop wasting water WORLD WIDE or the earth will stay like this!
Then a rumble & crack brings a moment’s relief / Yet lone drops are…
The Farmers Drought Stress can be potenually greater than the Drought itself.
Farmers Drought Stress
Once there were sheep / Millions upon millions / in flocks strong and deep
Poetry inspired by the shot of Darren Stones of the sheep yards at Parwan / When once this country rode on the sheep’s back now we are in danger of not having any. What will we do when all the flocks have gone?
Darren’s picture draws this cry from me / perhaps we will learn to be water wise eventually!
Darren’s picture draws this cry from me / perhaps we will learn to be water wise eventually! / Chookas! ♥
Lack of rain and dam water is now causing farmers to move stock
Parwan is being ravaged by drought. More photos here

Poem about drought in Australia
Poem, its all about Australia. The land and the seasons, the hardships and the joys.
Breathless / Scorched / Arid / Dry Parched / Cracked / Harsh / Sky Grit / Resolve / Struggle / Why? A brave face masks / a silent cry …
Written as a response to David Haviland’s image The Big Dry ... as confronting as these images of drought can be, one has to live in it – breathe it, taste it, smell it – to appreciate what the farmers face in these conditions. Thanks for bringing it to our screens Dave. Now entered in the It’s All About Australia Challenge …
but would it be worth it / to ones proved selfish / so blinkered and deaf / will they have realised / would they now regret / are her effort…
☼ Allow me the great Honour of introducing you all to a brand new Bubbler James Cole – a stunning artists of the most exceptional kind! ☼ His piece drowning solitude has inspired me to create poetical prose for thought in the style I had in the beginning and I have striven to write again since … thankfully inspired by such art my own true creativity has returned to me again! It also reminds me of songs from a local artist; Neil Quinlan / “Outside Badland’s Fantasy” & “the Cloud of Knowing” Thank you! ♥
