Blue water drop

This is a bit different from my usual stuff…..but change is good…..for a little while, anyway. / / This shot is actually a mistake – thought I had zoomed out when infact I hadn’t and at first glance I assumed I had missed what I was aiming for….this is what I found when I put my images on the computer….I like it. / / I haven’t done a thing to it – this is the 100% original file…. / / / / / / / / /
Photograph of a splashing droplet , as if you didn’t know. It’s in the shape of a crown …as if…... and It’s pretty and pink, so there you have it :) / /
water droplets splashing, some of the droplets were shooting out at a different angle while others were dropping down and this was the result when they crashed. It’ll never happen again LOL. I might crop out the big droplet that’s falling…I can’t make up my mind :) recent retouch / /

Sometimes the best photos come without preparation, on the first tryout. Although a couple of descent ones followed, not one of them had impact of this kind. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- / “Splash” is featured in the group – Natural color and light (08.03.2009) / “Splash” is featured in the group – You’re Accepted (15.06.2009) / “Splash” is featured in the group – Weekly Theme Challenges (23.06.2009) / “Splash” is featured in the top then of the Weekly Theme Challenges – Your Favorite Summer Scene

I was messing around with my camera on Mother’s Day and thought I’d try the lovely cliched coffee-mug-splash idea. Amazingly, this heart just pitched up in one of the splashes… especially wonderful since I was using a heart printed mug. I figure it was put there by God just for me, an extra Mother’s Day gift. Lemon splash into water – another cliche shot that like water-drop shots is something that should be tried. A rainy sunday today finally made me try this using a couple of flashes and a glass flower vase (as my tank). I did a bunch of others – but the cliched lemon had to be the first! Nikon D80 / Nikon 105 AF-S VR lens / f/11; 1/180sec; ISO400 / SB600 & SB800 fired wirelessly in manual mode using Cactus wireless triggers. / SB600 aimed at the background / SB800 home-made snooted and aimed down into the vase TUTORIAL: How to Splash Click image to view larger Click image to view larger
I’ve been trying for ages to get two drops to collide as they are dropped into a bowl. Finally I have achieved it. Up to now I’ve had trouble with focus and sharpness. I’ve finally solved those problems, although I need more light to avoid underexposure. Looks like I’m in the market for a decent studio light!!! :) This image was made by dropping pink coloured milk into blue milky water. Canon EOS 40D. 90mm Macro lens.

This is pink milk being dropped into a bowl of blue water. If you get the drops to fall fast enough they sometimes collide in mid air as this one has. This is my best drop shot yet. I think I’ve finally got the technique sorted. Yay!! The colours are as you see. The only photoshop involved is slight cropping and cloning out the spots from the lens filter being splashed in the process. I get so engrossed in taking the shots I keep forgetting to clean the lens. Lucky I use a filter for protection. Canon EOS 40D. 90mm Macro lens. Lighting is a camera mounted Speedlight bounced off a white background. Power set to 1/16th. F29; 1/250th sec; ISO 100. Manual mode. Tripod mounted.
Featured in The Woman Photographer Nikon D90 / Nikkor 105mm lens / f/8 / ISO 125 / SB 800 flash / A few F-Bombs / A lot of patience / About 300 photos later…..and this is the best I could do! / I’m going to keep trying but I was pretty happy with this one. Thank you very much to John Wright for inspiring me and for passing on some great tips and information and he told me to look up Strobist water drops . There are two videos on there. One on how to photograph a splash of water which I found very helpful. Also one called Time Warp-Water which is most definietly worth watching! Next project for me…..making two drops collide mid air…..yeah…..right!
