The moonlight was shining through my front porch window as I gave my miniature roses a ‘bedtime shower’, and the light was beautifully highlighting certain areas, while silhouetting other parts of the rose buds. Hope you like it. / Thank you for looking. Best Viewed Large.

Macro of a red rose with waterdrops taken with a Samsung GX20 and a Sigma 50mm macro lens. Straight from the camera (except for the RAW conversion process). Roses are ancient symbols of love and beauty. The rose was sacred to a number of goddesses (including Isis and Aphrodite), and is often used as a symbol of the Virgin Mary. ‘Rose’ means pink or red in a variety of languages (such as Romance languages, Greek, and Polish). A red rose (often held in a hand) is a symbol of socialism or social democracy: it is used as a symbol by British, Irish, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Brazilian, Dutch and other European labor, socialist or social democratic parties. This originated when the red rose was used as a badge by the marchers in the May 1968 street protests in Paris. The White Rose was a World War II non violent resistance group in Germany. A bouquet of red roses is often used to show love. It is used as a Valentine’s Day gift in many countries. On St George’s Day in Catalonia people offer dark red roses as gifts, especially between lovers. The Virolai, a hymn to the Virgin of Montserrat, one of the black Madonnas of Europe, begins with the words: “Rosa d’abril, Morena de la serra…” (April rose, dusky lady of the mountain chain…). Therefore this virgin is sometimes known as “Rosa d’abril”. The red rose is thus widely accepted as an unofficial symbol of Catalonia.

A cream rose after some rain, with a gold finish – processed in CS3. (As usual I have a number of versions … how does one know when to stop?!!)

Woooot!! Featured in: Extreme Close-ups! / AND Dimensions / AND / A Fascinating Purple / AND / Canon vs Nikon / As Part of My FIRST TRIPLE FEATURE!! Now this water drop has a very strange story behind it…I guess you could say that I really am noticing things that no normal person would notice!! rofl I washed my sink and taps this morning…with a J-Cloth…basically a blue and white fiber cloth that you use a few times and throw away. As I finished rinsing everything down I spotted a tiny water drop suspended from the end of the faucet…dripping off of a few strands of fiber that had caught when I wiped it down…this is the shot that I captured after I made a dash for my camera before that drop dropped:) / Canon 500D Sigma EX DG 70mm Macro and extension tubes..manual focus…natural light from the kitchen window above the sink:)
