A falling water droplet in the sun…....It was pure luck ! :)

OK… I’m coming out of the closet…. I have a confession to make…. I bought a macro lens (Tamron 90mm Macro). As somebody that considers themselves a serious landscape photographer I feel like I have donned an anorak and now I’m a train spotter. I don’t know why, but I have never been overly interested in macro photography before ,but all of a sudden I felt the urge to try my creativity on a much smaller scale. You won’t be seeing any flowers or insects from me, but I will be trying to bring some of the principles of large scale lighting and composition to the macro world. I have to admit though that I feel very clumsy operating in the macro world where depth of field is measured in millimeters when I’m used to sometimes having infinite depth of field. This is the first of a few exercises that I have set myself to try to understand the world of macro.

Sony H5 with M3358 close up lens. Cropped back from 3072×2304 to 1808×1360 and rotated it for better viewing. Yes I know I can up-size it back to 3072×2304 but that way you loose image quality IMO. Hence only available as card or matted print. If anybody wants the original shot or an up-sized version let me know. / / Have a look at my other photos. This is a bit different from my usual stuff…..but change is good…..for a little while, anyway. / / This shot is actually a mistake – thought I had zoomed out when infact I hadn’t and at first glance I assumed I had missed what I was aiming for….this is what I found when I put my images on the computer….I like it. / / I haven’t done a thing to it – this is the 100% original file…. / / / / / / / / /

Macro / waterdrop

First macro with my new camera. My remote doesn’t fit on this model so I had a bit of shutter shake & a bit of movement from the air-con (it was 41 degrees here today).

For Holly :) Taken at 4 times magnification of a rain drop hanging from a plant in our English garden.

Waterdrop reflection series Osteospurnum flowers come in many colours, but this variety, “Nasinga Cream” is a pretty creamy white, with unusual spoon shaped petals. / /

Another picture from my peacock feather series. I really enjoy the play of darks and highlights in this water droplet… it seems like a little war is being waged inside the drop… the forces of good and evil… the forces of light and dark… (I have an imaginative mind, don’t I? lol) I hope you enjoy this piece! Dew drops on a spider web on a barb wire fence. Viewed from just below so as to only see sky behind it and the drops reflecting an upside down pic of the sky and land. I couldn’t see this with the naked eye – it was only when I got in close and down low with the macro lens that I saw it through the view finder. It reminded me of planets suspended in a galaxy and that there is a whole different world out there to be viewed through a macro lens.
