In case some of you didn’t know, I am a part of a collective/label called Filthy Panda with fellow pandas Willo and Burnsy. A trio of good mates who share a love for art+design+fashion, we make shirts. And all of our shirts are of course printed by the fine folks at Redbubble, big thanks go to Ed Redman who sorted us out in time for the event! Filthy Panda will be at Shirty07 on SATURDAY, selling their swag and swilling beers. Shirty07 is a new not-for-profit design initiative – a market selling only t-shirts. It’s an event that fuses fashion with art, music with culture; where guests can purchase unique t-shirt designs direct from independent designers, enjoy live music and chill out at the bar with a drink! At least that’s what it says on the flyer, all shirts are capped at $69 so everything is kept accessable. The flyer also says : The first Shirty will be held on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 15TH / Midday 2 Midnight / At the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre / 1 Bedford Street Newtown (opposite the train station) www.shirty07.com Shirty07 will seriously be sick, and you’re all invited! Hope to see you there, With love, The Filthy Panda team. xo!

Well as it turns out it is the first weekend in August and that means that it is the annual fancy dress pub crawl in wimborne, Dorset. The preparation on the previous day was slightly hampered by the accidental naked Jenny day. This was actually an accident but distracted many from the fancy dress cause. Let me explain…. Friday is a day where you wear your own clothes to work. Jenny cleverly wore a skin coloured halter neck which resulted in everyone (the men) doing a double take at her. Numerous men diverted their usual routes to the photocopier (they never use the photocopier so it raised suspicions) weilding pieces of paper so they could sneak a peak. Since she has long hair that also added to the lady godiva look that she so perfectly embodied. In the next week I intend to do a shoot with horsey hoppers, there were comments about the practicality of creating an office based Godiva spectacle using the said horsey hoppers. Jenny was none too affected by the creative ideas that flowed thick and fast. Instead she continued her internet hunt for teas mades. This is the girl who has just considered buying a five man tent and said ‘great a five man tent, four men and me…’ / When asked in an important meeting ‘does anyone have anything important to raise,’ / she lifted her hand and said ‘yes I would like a raise.’ / Brilliant! That is why I love working! So back to the Hula mayhem. / The first rule of the pub crawl is to look ridiculous in whatever clothing fits the theme. This year it was hula. And hula it was. A mass of grass skirts, numerous garlands, bikinis and plenty of fleshy revelations…. And that was just the boys. The second rule is to drown your liver. / So in essence the aim of this pub crawl is to get battered, which I find particularly arduous because I don’t drink, but get intoxicated on the atmosphere. So in the first pub it was obvious that drinking was course of the day. Already a level of surreal had graced the group in the form of a giant inflatable palm tree. Wimborne does not have any naturally, so embellishment was more than necessary. Obviously the locals are aware of our annual antics so don’t look up from their tiddily winks games. Although there was a slight ripple of interest when six girls rode the palm tree down the highstreet in time. There was a unity in the timing as they all called one, two, one, two, one two…. Stop. Ready, one two… etc. Still there were a few raised eyebrows rather than participation. In the mean time one of the girls who had drunk a little too fast thought it appropriate to fall flat on her face in the pub. No one even responsed. SHe just laid face down, grass skirt everywhere, a shell bikini shifted and a husband who ordered her another drink. The third rule is to partake in drunken sporting games using props. The second pub had a large Garden, it is known as the olive branch. This is where we hold our sporting events. Last year I won a medal for the wheel barrow race. This year I was not so high up in the hula athletics… I thought I would give the others a chance…. Well that was my excuse! So hula it was. It was a HULA -OFF! The rules of hula in a hula hoop are as follows: two people hula off. They have to keep the hula hoop in motion for at least five seconds. Whoever lasts the longest wins. Unfortunately five seconds in unpracticed hula is not that easy, especially when a number of the particapants have consumed at least five pints already. Still it was a beautiful spectacle and the prize was a bag of Haribo. Obviously the pub garden became an international forum with numerous tourists being invited into the games… Suspiciously it turned out that the winners were a couple. Both had the moves and the motions which made the rest of the party question their bedroom antics… Darling you want an early night? / ‘Shall I get the hula hoop?’ / Just a slight smile and a wink. Later into the evening the palm tree began to deflate, I wondered whether it was symbolic of the participants livers. Still we went to a pub where a man sang on a microphone at the top of his lungs. His usual audience would have probably been two old people with hearing aids and a dog. The dog was less likely to have such a device…. Still if it could put its paws in its ears it would have. So with the numerous songs being barraged at us the group did the best they could and dnaced their little hearts out. Obviously a few stragglers could not cope and had to pop outside every once in a while. It turns out some were being ill in a bush, but still they returned refreshed and danced on the tables. It made the singers night! In the corner, Grant, the most famous party maker of our group was doing his best to inflate the palm tree. However he was unaware that every time he filled one end it seemed out of the other. That was because his ‘pal’ kept releasing the valve. Grant never did work it out. Still the slight deflation must have helped him when he got jammed in a telephone box with the tree. The last part of the evening was amusing when we attempted to get into a pub but had to hide the palm tree. Drunken logic ruled and the group tried to hide the large inflatable palm tree up one of the hulars t-shirt. Obviously the bouncers would not notice a large inflatable palm tree partly covered by a t-shirt. Obviously the excuse that he had a growth could be made. Thing is bouncers are generally quite switched on. In this case they let it go. The night turned into a major hula dancing event where we all demonstrated out hula moves, hip dislocation was imminent. Still it was fun until I realised that long grass skirts are not practical for toilet visits. It turned out some of the other girls had anticipated this and had velcro quick release grass skirts. I was not so lucky and managed to leave the bathroom with the grass skirt firmly tucked in my knickers… It isn’t the most comfortable position to be in. It is also awkward for people to help you out. especially when the grass is curious and exits through the underwears leg. Anyway I am sure you can work that out yourselves… So as with all things such an evening has to come to an end. Of course Hawaiin pizzas were needed, this was accompanied by numerous illogical banter. ‘My palm tree is my palm tree but it is a deflated palm tree, so how where do I get coconuts? / Also why it is when men are drunk they often dance like they are martial artists? I have never worked that one out… Anyway one particularly odd quote of the evening from one of the prim young ladies: ‘I just want to experience Hula in my mouth’. I suggested that they never say that out loud again. She recoiled when she realised what she had said…. She then stuffed her pizza in her mouth to prove a point… An evening of sheer fun and mayhem was had by all.
