Tucked amongst the trees by the ocean, “The Shack” sums up the essence of the Cocos Islands for me. A hut for surfers, a deck chair in the shade, warm breeze, driftwood, surf and sand between my toes. Well maybe a few mozzies too! Here exists a culture hard to find elsewhere; one of respect, where you can leave your surfboard and towel and come back to it a day later, a month later. Taken near Holland, Michigan in October 2007. The winds were very strong that day. Very hard to shoot pictures with all the sand blowing around. I loved it though. :) Thanks, Brion.

This image is a high quality print of an original painting by Tasmanian artist Deborah Conroy.
Mullaloo Beach early morning, full moon. Had to make various shots & exposures to get the low level shot of the wood and then pan up for the moon. Wave then lightened off to show the fantastic greens that is Western Australia. ... This is where I live and draw inspiration … What a beach …
South Beach Oregon
Came across this at the near deserted beach along a stretch of the Oregon Dunes National Park. Perfect position for my polarizer to take full advantage of the perpendicular sun.

This is the beach at a squatters town, Broke Inlet, at the end of a 4-wheel drive track, on the south coast of Western Australia, near Walpole. It is a fabulous place to explore, especially as – if they pull down the shacks – there may only be this view and a few pieces of driftwood left. Taken with Leica MP, 24mm lens, Velvia 100 film. Cropped in photoshop and levels tweaked. FEATURED IN A PHOTOGRAPHER’S CRAFT!
An acrylic painting 35cm x 25cm (13.5” x 10”) on paper, of a fallen tree on the shores of a beautiful remote beach in Queensland, Australia. Driftwood can be a nusiance but is important as it provides shelter and food for birds, fish and other aquatic species as it floats in the ocean. What a beautiful place to be.
This one’s for Karen ... thanks for reminding me of the awesome beachcombing on Sanibel Island. Drfitwood stark against the white sand melting into that amazing turquoise gulf… nothing around for miles except the egrets… / and yeah, I’ve had a few… but then again, too few to mention…
Some of the storms and wind that blows into Lovers Key Beach actually blows the shells into the driftwood on the beachs. This image was taken with my Nikon Coolpix P80 on Lovers Key State Park in Bonita Beach, Florida
Recent storms and cyclonic weather have washed up huge debris from the rivers running into the ocean. on the Gold Coast Beaches. / /
Photographed on Maui, Hawaii.
