Acrylic on canvas. One of my favourite paintings. My mother had kept a horrible painting from school in the house and I couldn’t stand it.. so I painted over it. The canvas had quite a bit of texture paste already on it which made it a little difficult to paint over but it added something in the end. You can’t see it as much in this photo for printing purposes. The first photo I had up showed the texture extra severly, which made it look like pixelation.. so I tried it again. From a sad old man playing a guitar, to a young woman with a cello.. better off I’d say.. Reference

I decided to make the most of the nice weather so my little girl & I played in the park.. I tried to take some good shots but she’s forever running from the camera, she’s very strong willed and everything always has to be her way so here it is! / P.S.. She’s also had a big hair cut this week :o)

Model – Meluxine The height of winter, she’s laying on wet frozen ground, in a vintage dress and my ugg boots, full to the brim with Hungry Jacks, watching me dance like a crazy person with a head cold around her when suddenly the sun breaks through right at the perfect moment, and she manages to pull of that look like it’s as easy as microwave popcorn. / This girl rocks. Canon 40D + available [overcast] light. / The film versions are pretty cool too. Copyright 2008 Harmony Nicholas

Model: Chantal Simone / Art Direction & Styling: Jo O’Brien / Photography: Jo O’Brien My model is the owner of many a splendid dress so I thought I should drag her around town in the middle of the night to take some photos of them. The fact that she said ‘yes’ to this request proves she is just as insane as I am. / - / While setting up this shot I was explaining to my model how flourescent light looks green in camera and that she therefore looked like a single cherry in a bunch of grapes. I don’t consider green light a flaw, I love it. Part of my Garage Chic series

Beltane Beltane (April 30th-may 1st) is one of the four major Celtic festivals of the year and marks the beginning of Summer. The Goddess is decked in green and her wells and springs are believed to be at their most fertile and magical. (The Malvina Well used in this image was sculpted by Rose Garrard and can be found in the centre of Great Malvern,Worcestershire.)

Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name. Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier and Tetouan. The city was founded in 1471, as a small fortress which still exists to this day, by Moorish exiles from Spain to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. It was known as one of the main concentrations of Moriscos and Jews who sought refuge in this mountainous city after the Spanish Reconquista in medieval times. In 1920, the Spanish seized Chefchaouen to form part of Spanish Morocco. They returned the city after the independence of Morocco in 1956. The name ‘Chefchaouen’ refers to the shapes of the mountain tops that tower over the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. It literally means “look at the horns”. The blue-rinsed houses and buildings, are a tradition that comes from the town’s former Jewish population. Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / ‘Inspired Series’ card by Karin Taylor Gypsy is a mixed media painting on canvas textured paper. She has been hidden away in my studio for a while now, awaiting her final touches. It turned out, she was finished and didn’t need anymore work…I hope you like her. I created this painting after I’d read of the gypsy clans who settled here and still roam Australia, a little known fact. It is in fact interesting, how many Aussies came from a gypsy background.

Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / ‘Beach Series’ card by Karin Taylor Still Waters sold very early on, but she is one of my favourite images. I was inspired by Margaret Preston’s work on this occasion, wanting to give the impression of a print somehow. This is a mixed media production in which I used ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal.

Model – Meluxine These are some outtake/alternates from the same shoot as Apple Blossom Girl – I actually took LOTS of shots from that set and am having strife picking the final shots to use, and since I treat RB as an alt/outtake spot as well as a preview/never before seen/standard portfolio, I figured what the hell ;) This particular pair were shot on my late Grandfather’s Ensign Selfix 820 on god knows what film, Fuji NPS 160 I thiiiiink… or possibly Portra 400NC. I had no idea what to expect, having never put film through the damn thing before, so the fact they worked and looked delightfully dreamy was very cool. These are scanned from the 120 neg, straight off the camera – no editing aside from putting them next to each other and whacking my watermark on them. Woohoo. You can read about the camera here: http://licm.org.uk/livingImage/Selfix820.html Copyright 2008 Harmony Nicholas
