I wrote this a while ago with the intention of starting a new series of paintings on the Wizard of Oz….the idea is still there… I hope to begin a new painting/series soon on the subject. What I have written here, is the unfolding of the research work on my subject…it is important that I gain a deep understanding or insight into my subject, as well as preparing the visual side of things, i like to get a feel for it spiritually, or at least have an empathy with/for my subject/s. I read different editions of the story itself, and look at as many different illustrations as possible, rewatch the movie a few times, and listen to any music associated with it…for example the tracks from the movie, as well as things like Elton John’s and Katie Noonan’s versions of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and eminem’s Yellow Brick Road and Raine Maida – Yellow Brick Road and anything else i can find associated with the imagery of the story… Somewhere over the Rainbow by Judy Garland / Somewhere over the Rainbow Eva Cassidy / Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Kamakawiwo / Fields of Gold Eva Cassidy

In the latest “last resort” humanity retreated to the moon. From there they get to look everyday at the polluted globe they once called home. / So now the credits pour into the race to find new worlds.
I spent 10 months in Jamaica, house sitting on the south coast (how good a job is that). / One day I was sitting on the cliffs watching a storm, when out of the mist came a beautiful sailboat racing before the storm. It was only there for a moment and it was gone. But it inspired me to write this poem and create an image for it. To Race Past Jamaica. Silver sail / on silver sea / fleeing westward to be free / on storm tossed wave / past emerald isle / atop ragged swells / that raise the bile / wind tight sail / her bow plates sing / cutting clean the oceans sting / silver sail through the mist / she rides the crests / the wind to kiss / ever onward / hear her sigh / above singing sea / and seagulls cry / farewell jamaica / and a last …….. / Goodbye. The shadow road runs from the city of Grantis across the Sea of Dreams to the fantasy world of Xanadu. It must be travelled when Andromeda is in the East. Once the road is gone all who are upon her vanish in the sea. At least thats what the legends say!!
These are the explorations of the starship “Sibelius”, star-traders following the charts left by the “others”. / See Message in a Bottle / She as discovered many new worlds, every one of them covered with thousands of dead cities, so much treasure that soon the trader will have to leave, but to return with bigger cargo ships. Still, there are a few niggling thoughts….where are the others, and will they return, and when?
This is a collaboration with Jenland’s Daily Tau – Moon image as the source: and after I moved some of the elements around, and added a couple others, converted into this: How better to study the moon than from a crystal topped tower on top of a giant moon Tau?! Hope you like, Jen!!

In the Litr system lies a planet called Morragg, here in the southern hemisphire is the Sea of Dread. / Many have sailed these waters, but none have ever returned. Legends say that if a being can sail across it and return, they will be given wealth beyond their wildest dreams plus they will own this world outright. / And only then will the protectiive shield be lifted. / Put here by a race of beings yet unknown, the shield allows no machinery or technology to work below 10,000 feet, not even transpobeams, when the planet was discovered a probe was located in low orbit, after translation it explained in great detail what would happen to any ship decending lower. / I guess a fair number of beings just didn’t believe, for there are hundreds of wrecked craft strewn across this world after loosing all power below the shield. / Really the only way to land is by way of gliders or balloons.
Banished from the Alliance Worlds millennia ago, and after untold centuries of living among the stars, members of the cult founded their order & temple on a small moon orbiting the ice planet Toras. / This system lies in a dark outer arm of the Andromeda Galaxy, and as three planets. / The cult was formed on the belief that the only way to bring about galactic peace and brotherhood, was to rid the worlds of all humans. A little extreme to say the least, and not something the rest of humanity could really get into. / So after the Sanarrans brought about genocide on a number of worlds, the cult was banished and forgotten. But will we hear from them again…...............who knows

On Queeblus Graino in the Stellis system lies the forbidding coast known as the Teeth of the Dragon. / Over the centuries untold numbers of vessels have been lost along this shore. But it is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands. It can be found at the western edge of the Sargarus Sea, the Teeth have to be navigated to reach the spaceport at Rivers Mouth. / Most of the planet is a no fly zone , so sailing vessels are the only form of transpotation. A great many river pilots will tell you they know the waters here, but unless they bear the Guild of Pilots Scarass Seal on there foreheads it would bode you well not to trust them with your ship and your life. / But many captains wanting to save credits have found the Teeth of the Dragon to be their final resting place. And of course a great salvage industry as sprung up along this coast which stretches for 4,000 leagues or in modern measurement 12,000 miles.
Here in camp the days heat as given way a much colder night. / And sitting here before a blazing fire we get to see the buttes we climbed today, set against a sinking sun and hopefully the storm clouds will pass us by.

I found it, I found it, its that special place where both space & time are warped. / This is the city where its possible to witness both sunrise and set at the same time. Its Curved Space… Personally, I think its really a state of mind, but if your a “Rocky Horror” fan this is the city for you. / It may be something in the grass, it may be something in the air, / it may be som…......who cares! So sing along folks…... It’s astounding; / Time is fleeting; / Madness takes its toll. / But listen closely… Not for very much longer. I’ve got to keep control. I remember doing the time-warp / Drinking those moments when / The Blackness would hit me And the void would be calling… Let’s do the time-warp again. / Let’s do the time-warp again. It’s just a jump to the left. And then a step to the right. Put your hands on your hips. You bring your knees in tight. / But it’s the pelvic thrust / That really drives you insane. / Let’s do the time-warp again. / Let’s do the time-warp again. It’s so dreamy, oh fantasy free me. / So you can’t see me, no, not at all. / In another dimension, with / voyeuristic intention, / Well secluded, I see all. With a bit of a mind flip You’re into the time slip. And nothing can ever be the same. You’re spaced out on sensation. Like you’re under sedation. Let’s do the time-warp again. / Let’s do the time-warp again. Well I was walking down the street / just a-having a think / When a snake of a guy gave me an / evil wink. / He shook-a me up, he took me by surprise. / He had a pickup truck, and the / devil’s eyes. / He stared at me and I felt a change. / Time meant nothing, never would again. Let’s do the time-warp again. / Let’s do the time-warp again. It’s just a jump to the left. And then a step to the right. Put your hands on your hips. You bring your knees in tight. / But it’s the pelvic thrust / That really drives you insane. / Let’s do the time-warp again. / Let’s do the time-warp again. I must have sucked in too much VOG in Hawaii.
