First Artwork I have done for quite a while, hope you like it :-) “There is a Native American legend that says, ” If you have a secret wish, capture a butterfly and whisper your wish to it. Since butterflies cannot speak, your secret is ever safe in their keeping. Release the butterfly, and it will carry your wish to the Great Spirit, who alone knows the thoughts of butterflies. By setting the butterfly free, you are helping to restore the balance of nature, and your wish will surely be granted.” The butterfly is a powerful symbol for transformation. It leaves the safety of the cocoon in it’s new form. This is an excellent image for anyone contemplating, or in the midst of a major change. A butterfly is a strong symbol of metamorphosis, with distinct stages. The butterfly is a reminder to make changes when the opportunity arises. Change and transformation are inevitable for us all, but it does not have to be traumatic.Butterfly symbolism is also closely tied to the idea of spirits and souls. It has been used in many religions and cultures. Psyche is the Greek word for both soul and butterfly. The belief was that butterflies were human souls searching for a new reincarnation, which gave the creature uncanny and sometimes ominous connotations. This symbolism was also used in early Christianity as a symbol of the soul. Celts thought that women became pregnant by swallowing butterfly souls. all models cleared by contract,all pictures,photoshop by Sandy Viktor Nys / This series where actually snapshots I took from Oksana. After a photo session she took a bath, but still wearing all the false hair. Ofcourse I asked her to pose again, telling me her stories without words. / / On the snapshot I put the big secret soft skin trick, painted in again details of eyes, nose and lips. Lighten white of eyes with dodge, darkened eyelashes with burn. / Masked out her background and put her on top of mixed scans from abstract pen drawings. / Made a copy of Oksana layer and put a diffuse glow filter on this layer. / Made several copies of both Oksana layers and adjusted them to each other with overlay, lighten etc. and opacity until I liked the color.

All models cleared by contract, all pictures and photoshop by Sandy Viktor Nys. / This series is shot in the Chapel of the cultural Centrum Gasthuis, Aarschot, Belgium. / Sandra was shot in the afternoon, with natural light coming out the big windows. / She is a clothes designer and manufactured the fetish outfit for this session. / The light in the church was so perfect , I did not change anything at the picture in photoshop. / I only put an atmosphere back ground on top, ( an abstract mix of rust, garbage, sand etc) Masked it and painted Sandra back in again with different brushes and pressures.

All models cleared by contract, all pictures and photoshop by Sandy Viktor Nys. / This series is shot in the Chapel of the Cultural Centrum Gasthuis, Aarschot, Belgium. / (The Chapel is used for music, poetry and readings.) / Maide was shot late in the afternoon, at the altar with artificial light. / I cut out the altar and copied it on an interior shot of the church during daylight. / The batwings scanned out a book, cut out, adjust perspective and shape with transform tools, made a copy of the wings, put first layer wings on lighten second layer wings on overlay, adjust opacity of the 2 wings layers, to get the vibrant transparency. / To create the light atmosphere I put overtop a self made abstract layer ( composed out of high resolution shots of sand, dirt, rust, garbage…) / This is an exemple / / Put this layer on multiply.This covers the composition in a dark film. Put this layer on 50 % opacity, so you can see the composition again. Mask the layer, with a self made brush and different pressures paint out the dark layer, following the light of the window. When this is roughly done, put the layer back on 100 % opacity, so you really see the atmosphere, fine-tuning with small brushes on the model, bigger brushes for the enviroment. I also use the pressure sensitivity of my Wacom to achieve this. It is important you use a brush shape that does not give full lines; I made a brush from a rendered cloud filter and extreme contrast adjustment. If you wipe to much you can go back by changing the backgroundcolor of the brush and paint the darkness in again. / To understand, in fact I got all the perfect light of the interior shot of the chapel (atmosphere & light but no model, a perfect shot of perfect light coming out of the huge windows in the sunny afternoon. When mixing the models shot (with artificial light) with the shot of the interior with natural light, I actually blend these different atmospheres together with the abstract layer.
