Took a different approach for the photoshpcreative07 competition and decided to reverse the concept. Here a lone survivor condemned to a future of infinite chaos manages to escape back into a alternate past of infinite possibility. This could be a physical escape or projected from within the travellers mind; an internal escape to fantasy, much like the ending of Brazil. Have since sold the image for use on the cover of the Griffith Review – yay.

Twisted angry faces, lunging at me quicker than I can get away from them, hands grabbing me, hitting me, HURTING me. Huge features…the point of view from the child who is physically much smaller than they are. I always try and remember that when I am dealing with my daughter. Get down on the floor…don’t tower over her when I’m angry. Fear is not want I want her to remember me by. / / It’s in me though…there have been moments of pure rage and fury when I have wanted to pick her up and force her to do my bidding. I walk away…I give myself a time out instead of giving her one. I found her in my arms once with that look on her face….she was scared. / I wanted to throw up. / I live everyday comparing myself to my parents. I’ve learned everything I should NEVER do from them. / If I do the opposite of what they would have done we might just be O.K. /

We were as we were meant to be – / Released from the heavy chains of our humanity, / Risen above the petty materialism and power struggles / That we once thought defined us. / We had relinquished the ironies of our need for separation from others / That wrestled constantly with our deepest yearning for belonging and unity, / We had softened into our connection with the Earth / And felt her heartbeat as our own, / We had begun to tread more tenderly upon the face of / The one who sustains us, / And remembered again, / To honour the beauty that she held up in her mirror. / Our recognition grew in the knowing that what we saw in our world / Was but a reflection of what we held inside, / Of Who we truly are, / And that the choice between fear and love was our very own, / Not the whim of a distant God. In this moment, we had grown wings, / And through the very lightness of our awakening…. / We had reached beyond our human limitations / And soared free.

Age 22. 2009. To some, the boy knew, it may have been a small departure from a lovable feline, but to him, Morris’ death was heartbreaking. There had been many times in the past where the boy had hurried home and hid away in his bedroom, hoping desperately to be forgotten by the world. He had wept in the isolated darkness, crying out his pain, yet Morris had always comforted him; lying there lovingly without judgmental eyes. Morris was always there offering his console by silently listening to every last word. With a tear in his eye the boy could remember what it felt like to cradle his arms around the little one, feeling his cushion-like fur on his skin.
