A baby Mountain Gorilla is cradled in the arms of her mother, while her father, a large Silverback Gorilla watches from behind. Created to help raise awareness about the serious plight of the Virunga Mountain Gorillas. These creatures are severely endangered and only 650 or so remain alive in the world today. Most die due to illegal poaching, encroachment onto rainforest habitats by charcoal farmers who burn the rainforest trees down and many die due to vicious acts by warring soldiers fighting between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. All of my Mountain Gorilla artwork is dedicated to raising donations from sales to directly benefit the caring organization Wildlife Direct at wildlifedirect.org. Thank you for helping me to help them. ~ Skye
1960 Kinshasa, RDC. Represent with pride
Photographed in situ at probably the countries largest informal African Curio market. This mask (image) is only one of many which have been photographed and catalogued. All the masks were then formally captured using a portable studio (and lighting), rendered prints were produced and sold, with the proceeds going to the various ‘stall holders’ who gave their permission to shoot. The stall holders hail from all over Africa – Malawi, Botswana, Zimbabwe, DRC etc. / Black & White Rendition.
self-explanatory
To come across a French Patisserie when you have eaten okra and onions for a month is akin to reaching the Holy Grail.
OK, this is old. Written in the late 1990s. I think the story is good but the writing could be better. In 1996/7 I spent 6 months traversing Africa. This is one of many adventures I had along the way. Anyway, I had almost forgotten this experience, until I found it tonight.
