Yes, before you say it … strange! :-) As of July 2009, this painting has had 5,048 viewings and has been favourited 79 times and had 194 comments, so I guess someone out there likes it. Many thanks for your enthusiasm. To be candid though, I’ll never cease to be amazed at its reception, as I didn’t spend too much time on it and even kept it out of my portfolio for ages as I thought it was sub-standard. I guess this is an indication of how drawing completely obsesses me some days. / / Watercolour and ink on heavy printmaking paper. / / / / This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.5 Australia License
A revised version of my ‘Middlesbrough Drops’ watercolour painting. The coal drops on the river Tees estuary, in the 1830’s. / In the foreground, is the Tees river ferry – which in those days, was a small, rowing boat. I love the daunting and weird, distant grey structures, ready to drop the coal upon the collier (coal) ships. My version of a Thomas Harrison Hair, 1837 watercolour. Watercolour and HB pencil.
Sorry about the pun, ‘revamped!’ I’ve put a filter on my watercolour painting, to increase the moonlight atmosphere
The North Sea at Whitby. The Herring boats at misty dawn, / To get the details of the boats correct, I’ve used a Victorian photo as the subject. I liked the very hard pen ink lines of the foreground, contrasting with the soft, misty, wet-in-wet background. 90 lb watercolour, medium rough paper. / 12”x8”

ink on watercolor paper another messenger from… / it’s late / it may have been just another dream / hover / the air held still / you could walk on it / desperation / the sense of panic subsides / the quiet whisper of a memory / the past hangs on the other side / it haunts me…
ink on watercolor paper. intended for a one-way trip to new york it never made…
This one is half sketch, half finished piece of work. It was done quite a while ago when I was experimenting with some chalk pastels, and watercolor pencils. It’s a little sloppy, the drawing of the little girl is a wee bit wanky, but I sort of dig the colors… So there’s something… I guess… Maybe… No?
This is for my sister Michelle’s birthday. She’s overseas in London at the moment, so it doesn’t matter that I’m a day late on this because it’s still her birthday over there :D Ink, gouache, pencils and watercolour on craft card / This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.5 Australia License
In my Painting the Masters series, at Shipley art gallery. This is a John Callow (1822-1878) Watercolour on hand-made Not paper. / 17” x 10.5”
Another in the Masters series. / This is the centre part of a long panoramic watercolour. By Thomas Bush Hardy, 1895. I’ve moved some of the boats to be closer together, as my version is a small painting, 10×7 inches, on rough Bockingford tinted cream paper, 140lb. I will be painting the full length seascape in the future.

Portrait of a little girl on a swing with her cabage patch doll. This little girl lived across the street from me at the time I did this piece..She is about four years old, watercolor pencil and water color on coquile paper . I add water as I go with the pencils but don’t get it too wet..I spray it lightly when finished and use a blow dryer / I used Coquille paper 3ply…Cold press it has a stiple surface and is predictable meaning no surprises. It helps me achieve the effect I want and is very durable. It’ plays a big part in my images. I like to get as much depth as possible in my work…I achieve this with light and contrast in my color..People also identify my work wilth the color that I use..It has kind of becomes a trade mark . I also strive to have a unique quality in my art…. Something all of my own. / This piece hangs in a Doctors Office in Sick Kids Hospital…It was a lot of fun to do…She was having such a great time on that swing I had to capture it on paper. I like to capture movement in my work and a feeling of part of my subject…Who they are…a part of their personality…Something you can take away with you after viewing such as a feeling of happiness..You can tell she loves her doll very much because it;s on the swing with her…I use props a lot in my art work of children..This way when the child sees the art work she can identify with it by seeing their doll or teddy….My work appeals to various kinds of people especially children or places children will be. /
I just uploaded this new scan from my work!! I just completed this mixed media piece. The image size is 14×18 inches. I used archival ink and derwent graphitint watercolor pencils. This is drawn on illustration board and took many hours. I completed the border over a year ago and could not decide what I wanted to put in the middle. I was originally going to call this drawing “If I Could Help Design An Antelope” but as I finished it I decided that it had an old world feeling to it and the name “Paradise” seemed to fit. you will not see this species anywhere as I dreamed it up:) Any proceeds from the sale of prints and cards from RB will be donated to The Philadelphis Mission. You may view their contact info. on my front page. Thanks for looking!! You can also purchase this design on authentic postage stamps at www.zazzle.com/catherinehowell
