This one is half sketch, half finished piece of work. It was done quite a while ago when I was experimenting with some chalk pastels, and watercolor pencils. It’s a little sloppy, the drawing of the little girl is a wee bit wanky, but I sort of dig the colors… So there’s something… I guess… Maybe… No?

Portrait of a Child on Swing, about four years old, watercolor pencil and water color on coquile paper . I add water as I go with the pencils but don’t get it too wet..I spray it lightly when finished and use a blow dryer.. I used Coquille paper 3ply…Cold press it has a stiple surface and is predictable meaning no surprises. It helps me achieve the effect I want and is very durable. It’ plays a big part in my images. / The Joy of Life Challenge

Another in the Masters series. / This is the centre part of a long panoramic watercolour. By Thomas Bush Hardy, 1895. I’ve moved some of the boats to be closer together, as my version is a small painting, 10×7 inches, on rough Bockingford tinted cream paper, 140lb. I will be painting the full length seascape in the future.

My version of a Thomas Bush Hardy (1842-97). From an 1895 watercolour of Ramsgate Harbour. A panoramic shaped painting, 23” x 10”. / Hand-made, 140lb rough paper. Over 20 hours work. Multiple layers of semi-transparent and opaque watercolour, and white zinc gouache for highlights. Viewing in larger size is necessary.
