  • Wood Duck…aix sponsa…...puts a whole new meaning on getting red eyed

  • If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands. / Douglas Adams Quote Wood Ducks / Wood Ducks —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- It took forever to finally get a closeup shot of him. He was so shy and kept flying across the lake. They were here at the city park during fall migration. They are not tame but truly wild ducks taking a quick break before traveling again. I was amazed to see them at the city lake were people walk all the time because of the fact they normally do not like to be near people. The only other times I have seen them is in more secluded areas and they always flew away before I was even close. I sat very still for over two hours and finally this wood duck drake swam close enough for me to get a great shot of him. I am so thankful for that wonderful day. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / Let’s help keep our waterways clean and protected. This is a Living Planet after all Let’s keep it that way, alive and living So far 5 Sales of this image on Redbubble since joining RB plus this image has also sold the most on GCU out of all my images there :) This photo was taken back in 2007 at a park in Nebraska.

  • ... well Funny Duckling is how my husband described these critters that were waddling round the campsite in Tournai, Belgium. Actually its a Crested Call Duckling, unless I am mistaken. A lucky opportunistic shot of this cutie!

  • On December 13, 1577, Drake, commanding the Golden Hind, left Plymouth with four other vessels with the story that they were sailing to Alexandria, Egypt. Almost three years later, Drake returned without his escorts on September 26, 1580, after circumnavigating the globe. There must be a beginning of any great matter, but the continuing unto the end until it be thoroughly finished yields the true glory. / Words by Francis Drake Acrylics, pigment, inks and gold foil / 100×42cm on paper / Music

  • The drake… in Berlin Spandau (Germany)...

  • Nature Reclaims: This is part of the network of Leats that supplied the City of Plymouth with fresh drinking water in the 15th Century from Dartmoor. Constructed by Sir Francis Drake; Commonly called ‘Drake’s Leat’. Now nature has taken over most of them, but there are still parts that are used even today to take water to Burrator Reservoir, and when it rains very heavily they are still used to take away the overflow.

  • Recently at The University of York I came across fellow RedBubbler Darren Shaw (aka duck370) feeding the ducks. This Mallard drake had managed to get into Darren’s food bag to help himself. NB Since posting this Darren has posted three that are similar but better than mine! Give them a look.

  • Self-portrait Place To Be, Nick Drake When I was young, younger than before / I never saw the truth hanging from the door / And now I’m older see it face to face / And now I’m older gotta get up clean the place. And I was green, greener than a hill / Where flowers grew and the sun shone still / Now I’m darker than the deepest sea / Just hand me down, give me a place to be. And I was strong, strong in the sun / I thought I’d see when day is done / Now I’m weaker than the palest blue / Oh, so weak in this need for you.

  • Self-portrait – another version of this... Place To Be, Nick Drake When I was young, younger than before / I never saw the truth hanging from the door / And now I’m older see it face to face / And now I’m older gotta get up clean the place. And I was green, greener than a hill / Where flowers grew and the sun shone still / Now I’m darker than the deepest sea / Just hand me down, give me a place to be. • Self-portrait, 3rd in Rootless Tree series. What I want from you is empty your head / They say be true, don’t stay in your bed / We do what we need to be free / And it leans on me like a rootless tree What I want from us is empty our minds / We fake the thoughts, and fracture the times / We go blind when we’ve needed to see / And this leans on me, like a rootless… ~ Rootless Tree, Damien Rice

  • Self-portrait, 5th in Rootless Tree series. From the song, by Damien Rice: Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you / And all we’ve been through / I said leave it, leave it, leave it / There’s nothing in you / And did you hate me, hate me, hate me, hate me so good / That you just let me out, let me out, let me out / Of this hell when you’re around / Let me out, let me out, let me out / Hell when you’re around / Let me out, let me out, let me out

  • Photo taken from the bridge (deck 6) of our trusty little ship Polar Pioneer while crossing Drakes Passage. It was taken one handed as I held on for grim death with the other, lol. The ship was built as an ice breaker, as a result it has a much more rounded hull and NO stabilisers. During the first 24 hours of the crossing we had constant 8 meter seas coming at a 45 degree angle on the port beam. During the second 24 hours nothing much had changed except the seas had increased to 10+ meters. Made for interesting meal times. 100% of proceeds received from Redbubble in respect to sales of this item, will be donated to Bush Heritage Australia

  • One of the best in a series of similar paintings. I’d like to think that there is sort of a dark intimacy between these two figures, and the mystery heightens that effect. I took a lot of care with the palate on this one to make certain things pop out of that darkness. I really tried to give that shape to the ribs and make it look human.
