  • Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located slightly downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, about four miles or 6 km south of Page. Accessible via a 3⁄4-mile (1.2 km) hike from U.S. Route 89, it can be viewed from the steep cliff above, forming a spectacular vista. / This image is actually made of 4 pictures taken with my Canon 20D – 17-40mm L lens and stitched together to create this panoramic

  • Equipment used: / Nikon D70s / Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC / B&W 62mm Circular Polarisation Location: / Athabasca Falls, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada Map: / Road Map , Terrain , Satellite Copyright: / © Brendan Schoon , All rights reserved. Background Information: / This picture is taken near Athabasca Falls . Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park is just 23 metres high. However, it is not known for its height. Instead it is known for the force of the falling water due to the quantity of water flowing. Even on a cold morning in the fall, copious amounts of water flow over the falls. A layer of hard quartzite has allowed the falls to cut into the softer limestone below carving the short gorge and a number of potholes. White water rafting often starts below the falls to travel downstream on the Athabasca River to Jasper, Alberta. It is a class 5 waterfall, with a drop of 80 ft (24 m) and a width of 60 ft (18 m). • I’ve really started to love taking very slow exposure shots, both in daylight and at night. This was taken with the shutter set for a full 6 seconds and the aperture set for F/22, or pretty darn small. I’d taken the shot as easily as possible in the standard ways but saw the potential for a reflection being ‘ruined’ by the constant ripples in the water. Leave it to a Nikon D80 and the help from some serious professional members of Red Bubble to make it possible for me to create a smooth surface on a running river. Thank you and you peeps know who you are!

  • Fall Creek Gorge Nature Preserve near Attica, Indiana This is a view of the potholes area looking downstream. The large rock cliff right in the center of this picture is right at the bottom of the path from the parking lot. However, as I still didn’t want to take a swim, I would have to go back to the waterfall to take the cliff top path back to my car.

  • Looking downstream onto Bridalveil Creek running off of Bridalveil Falls less than 100 feet upstream in Yosemite National Park in California.

  • A photo from Hardwick hall Country Park, edited in colour to be more vibrant.

  • This is a view of the River Wharfe on the stretch between Barden Bridge and Appletreewick in the Yorkshire Dales. / Some sunshine would have been nice but at least I got an interesting sky. :) 24th January ‘09 / Nikon D40 – Sigma 10-20mm

  • Photographed at Falls Creek Gorge in Five Points Indiana.

  • Looking downstream near a bridge near the roaring Yosemite Falls in June.

  • Three Shire Heads is a point where four packhorse routes meet. There is a fabulous high-arched stone packhorse bridge beside which is Panniers Pool where the little ponies with their heavy panniers or saddlebags would have been allowed to drink. / Taken with my D300 and 10-20 Sigma lens ND 0.6 filter on tripod 2 seconds at f22, then processed in Capture One and NX2.

  • Shot taken on a trip to Erskine Falls with my buddy Greg Desiatov a month or so ago. I haven’t really looked at the files since my initial post for the area, but I took a look today and decided to do another image from the area. Taken with a Nikon D300 with a 50mm lens f11 with a 20 sec exposure (nd8 Cokin P filter).

  • SHOT IN ROARING FORK,GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK,TENNESSEE. CANON F-1,50MM LENS,FUJICHROME 50,CABLE RELEASE,BOGEN TRI-POD,F-16@1/60

  • Autumn leaves fallen and floating on the waters of a small creek as they make their way downstream. Kentucky – Autumns

  • The last time I visited this bridge I was hit with by a nasty thunderstorm. I decided to go back on a beautiful day to catch the shot I originally intended to get. This is the Moreland / Fraser Covered Bridge near Lairdsville, Pennsylvania. The bridge is on Covered Bridge Road, off of State Route 118 in eastern Lycoming County. It is also called the “Lairdsville Bridge” and is one of the finest examples of the true Pennsylvania covered bridge. The bridge has survived 121 years of thunderstorms, floods, hail, wind, snow and every temperature extreme imaginable! The Moreland Bridge was built in 1888 across the “Little” Muncy Creek in Moreland Township. It is also know as The Fraser Covered Bridge. The structure still has all of its original timbers, in a classic “Burr Arch” design. This bridge is officially listed on the US National Historical Register and has been beautifully maintained by the Lycoming County Commissioners. Interior View and Construction Details of the Bridge A Canon EOS 10D DSLR body, fitted with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Zoom lens was used. The lens was set to its widest focal length of 17mm. The camera’s shutter speed was 1/90th sec at f/4. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. This photograph was taken “hand-held” and is “straight from the camera” with no processing or alterations.
