  • Folkestone, Kent….. the southeast corner of the UK A hazy morning…....... just before sun up / 7.27am F-stop f/22 / Exposure time 11 sec. / ISO speed ISO-100 / Focal length 18 mm Featured in the group Natural Color and Light 04/02/2009 Featured in the group Dawn and Dusk Light 14/04/2009

  • Taken at The Warren in Folkestone, Kent….. the southeast corner of the UK / 11 January 2009

  • Location / Alkham, near Dover, Kent, England. June 2009: I have never seen so many poppies so tightly packed together before, and it was a baking hot summers afternoon. Thankfully there where some whisps of clouds around to hold an interest in the sky.

  • Location / St Margaret’s Bay, Kent, England August 2009: Taken 45 minutes before sunrise and facing away from where the sun rises from. The glow of red above the famous white cliffs are those from the docks at Dover which handles the cross channel ferries to France (one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world)

  • Dover Castle in the evening sun. / Created in Photoshop using an HDR photo of the castle (+/- 3EV) / and adding the skys. The whole image was overlaid with textures to give the ‘Old Masterly” look.

  • An HDR shot of Dover Castle, in the early morning light.

  • In many of my digital paintings I place the sun peering out of the clouds in the top right hand side of the image. I was delighted that, on this occasion, nature had done this for me! I think it was Grimduke1 who challenged me to do an image of Westgate… well this was from Minnis Bay. Not quite Westgate, but close!! This started life as an HDR (9 exposures) and was processed in Photomatix Pro. Then tweaked in Photoshop.

  • The White Cliffs of Dover in early morning light

  • The white cliffs of Dover are cliffs which form part of the British coastline facing the Strait of Dover and France. The cliffs are part of the North Downs formation. The cliff face, which reaches up to 106 metres high, owes its striking façade to its composition of chalk (pure white calcium carbonate) accentuated by streaks of black flint. The cliffs spread east and west from the town of Dover in the county of Kent, an ancient and still important English port. The cliffs have great symbolic value for Britain because they face towards Continental Europe across the narrowest part of the English Channel, where invasions have historically threatened and against which the cliffs form a symbolic guard. Because crossing at Dover was the primary route to the continent before air travel, the white line of cliffs also formed the first (or last) sight of the UK for travellers. Taken from Wikipedia

  • Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/125 second, ISO100, tweaked in Photoshop Whilst down in Kent we met up with FelicityB and her lovely dogs at a wonderful nature reserve called Stod marsh where we saw a female marsh harrier which was amazing to see. Felicity was very good to us suggesting many places to go to in Kent which we really appreciated. This shot was taken in the grounds of the wonderful Dover castle. This Saxon church was built on the Castle Hill in the 10th century. The church of St Mary in Castro as it stands today is a much restored example of a Saxon church dating from around 1000 AD. It is surrounded by a large late Saxon cemetery which suggests that this church replaces an earlier building. I will attempt catch up with your work over the next few days. Please view large

  • Dover Castle Kent / HDR & Photoshop

  • Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 17-70 lens at 17mm, F7.1, shutter speed 1/400 second, ISO200, tweaked in Photoshop This shot was taken during my recent holiday in Kent. These wonderful horses were grazing on the fields above Dover Castle which you can see in the distance. One of the largest castles in the country, strategically located at the shortest crossing point to continental Europe, Dover Castle has played a prominent part in national history. Its origins lie in the Iron Age, and a Roman Lighthouse and Anglo-Saxon church can still be seen within the grounds. Please view large
