  • Two Eagles

This pair of Bald Eagles are our Winter residents at Wind River Ranch, they usually have their offspring to teach them how to fish the Naches River. This photo was inspired by the words of Cherokee Chief “Two Eagles”, who was asked by a white U.S. Government official, “You have observed the white man for 90 years. You’ve seen the wars and his technological advances. You’ve seen his progress, and the damage he’s done.” The chief nodded in agreement. The official continued, “Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?” / The chief stared at the official for over a minute and then calmly replied, / “When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex.” / Then the Chief leaned back and smiled, “Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.” I was reminded of Chief Two Eagles today, by Elsie Duggan, who forwarded me an email about these wise words spoken and very tough to argue ;) WindOwl / /

Mother Earth gave the Red People a special gift of Turtle Island (North America): They were charged with the responsibility of being Caretakers of this vast land and were given much wisdom and knowledge as regards its care and preservation. An Elder once said, “We are the environment and the environment is us. We deal with all of nature as equal members of the universal family. We go to the mountain, we go into the mountain, we become the mountain – never trying to overcome it, but always being part of its energy.” -the land was then simply taken from the First Peoples, and quickly became a marketable commodity by which great riches could be gained. As humans we need to look around and inside of ourselves and learn from this. It was never the intention of Mother Earth for the land to have no meaning except for what it could bring monetarily. - We need to embrace Mother Earth with pureness, dignity, peace and constructive energy so that together we can save what is left of her. When we walk the walk with the twin elements of Knowledge and Courage, (knowledge of the importance of the Land to our living world, and courage to save it), all things are possible. • “Ode to Newfoundland” is the official provincial anthem of Newfoundland and Labrador. It dates back to 1904, when it was penned by Governor Sir Cavendish Boyle to a tune by Sir Hubert Parry. When Newfoundland received Dominion status in 1907, the song was made into its national anthem, but this distinction was dropped when Newfoundland joined the Canadian Confederation in 1949. Three decades later, in 1980, the province re-adopted the song as an official provincial anthem. Newfoundland and Labrador is the only province in Canada to officially adopt a provincial anthem. / / When sun-rays crown thy pine-clad hills, / And summer spreads her hand, / When silvern voices tune thy rills, / We love thee, smiling land, / We love thee, we love thee, / We love thee, smiling land. / / When spreads thy cloak of shimm’ring white, / At winter’s stern command, / Thro’ shortened day and star-lit night, / We love thee, frozen land, / We love thee, we love thee, / We love thee, frozen land. / / When blinding storm gusts fret thy shore, / And wild waves lash thy strand, / Thro’ sprindrift swirl and tempest roar, / We love thee, wind-swept land, / We love thee, we love thee / We love thee, wind-swept land. As loved our fathers, so we love, / Where once they stood we stand, / Their prayer we raise to heaven above, / God guard thee, Newfoundland, / God guard thee, God guard thee, / God guard thee, Newfoundland. ..................................... / Click here to add me to your watch list. / .....................................

  • Freddie Mercury standing on top of the Dominion theatre in London. My fave musical is performed there and everytime I go past I take a photo. However here I almost got squished cause there were roadworks on the pavement so to get a good pic I had to stand in the road lol. Lyrics from “No one but you” by Queen. For some reason that line always stands out in my head. Cropped because of traffic lights and a road work light got in the pic.
