Taken during my vacation to Punta Cana, Dominican Repulbic, February 2009.
The Resort was the Majestic Colonial a 5*+ establishment in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The whole compound was shaped like a U with the main buildings, lobby, restauraunts, casino, spa, theatre, bars etc positioned towards what I considered the back giving access to the road, and two arms of rooms stretching out on either side to the south facing the ocean. Everything was open air and between both arms and on either side of the U shape were gardens, man-made lakes as well as the largest swimming pool I have ever seen or heard of winding its way through the middle of the whole compound to the ocean at the other end. We were fortunate to have a room located on the other side of this arm on the third floor, within two minutes of both the ocean and the tail end of the pool, and we spent the early part of the morning taking in the incredible ocean view and sipping strong Dominican coffee on our balcony. At night we could hear the surf on the shoreline. This shot was taken on one of my early morning explorations (6:45 AM) just as the sun rose… Majestic Colonial
This is paradise land …all photos are better viewed larger. / This picture was featured in “All about boating” group 8/mar/2009 / This picture was featured in “Rustic” group 4/mar/2009 / This picture was featured in “Nautical ” group 3/mar/2009 / Thank you to the wonderful hosts of these groups for granting me this honor! / xoxoxo This old little boat is still used by Las Galeras fisherman’s to go out every day in the ocean to fetch and pic up nests full of fishes that look like sardines. This is located in Las Galeras on the Samana Peninsula on the Atlantic side of the Dominican Republic this Island is situated in the Western Caribbeans . The beach is named Las Galeras after the small fisherman village 15 minutes from the hotel “Grand Paradise Samana”, part of this beach, at least half of it, is still in a natural untouched state, the rest is part of the hotel complex and they have made every effort to keep the beach as close to possible to its natural existence to keep the sand and coconut trees from erosion, the complex is build on the ground of an old coconut plantation, that way we can still see and hear the wildlife everywhere on the complex that is also surrounded with thick mountain forest and mangroves. / I went there on a marvelous vacation for 2 weeks starting at the end of the month of January 2009 and I cant wait to go back to paradise land… The Samana Peninsula has more than 9 millions of coconut trees some in small family owned plantations it permits families to have a reasonable good living, they also make hand made art and hand made soap and other artisan products. Some bigger outside companies also buy most of the coconut production, the bigger $$$ are brought in by the selling and export of coconut milk and oil, they are used in different beauty products, shampoo, cream, solar protection, in food, etc. This is a pristine location where nature is still in a natural state, I took more than 300 pictures and this is only a small sample , 20 photos or so, I really enjoyed taking them as the natural settings in the region is beautiful, I hope you have as much pleasure in viewing my photos… than I had capturing them! As is with my photosmart HP R927 camera
To my dismay, despite the incredible beauty I found in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, February 2009, our resort and beach faced south. Which means that the sunrises and sunsets were to the right and left respectively and hidden by shoreline, trees and other resorts. Although I walked quite a distance on both sides, the sunsets and sunrises were obscured by various things both natural and man-made, and I did have to make the best of it. This shot higlights a unique tower-like roofline on a building and I couldn’t resist the color, silhouettes, or shadows, I only saw one full sunset the night we departed, from the bus, as we left on the way to the airport, and it was indeed a splendid one, a combination of reds, golds, pinks, and oranges, but alas it was the one that got away… Featured in the group The Outsiders, March 2009
Trail to Fisherman’s Village Every day of my vacation well…every other day, I would take a half and hour wall down the natural path and untouched part of the beach that went toward the fisherman’s village , every day in late afternoon they would come in with small bark and pull out nets and I would sneak and take a peek at what was the catch of the day, some fishermen where also fishing on the banks with very peculiar funny fishing lines, I had never seen nothing like it , never seen before…but that story is for a other photo…:)) / Photo as is directly out of the compact camera Photosmart HP R927 / Captured in Las Galeras Beach, Samana Peninsula, Dominican Republic, a Island of the Caribbeans. This is a reconstitution of a Tainos religious ceremony to the memories of the dead. / I captured it at the “Manatee National Park ” in Punta Cana Dominican Rep. Caribbean Island.First time I ever captured orbs in a photography! / This is 3 out of a series of 12 pictures I took during the religious ceremony, on the first in the series of 12 (not all posted) we can see the start of the elevations of the spirits of dead Tainos gradually rising from the artifact skeletons that are covered with a glass top inside a corded barrier for preservation and are in the ground in the middle center of the ceremony, in this picture we can very well and clearly see all of the hundreds of spirits that have raised from the tomb in the ground while the pinnacle of the ceremony was going on…(see the other post for the ending and conclusion of the ceremony) 5th in: TOP TEN finish in the Ghostly Images group’s “The Other Side” challenge! 17/APR/2009-was featured in Paranormal The Norm Thanks to the wonderful moderator and hosts for my first feature in this special group I really appreciate xoxoxo The skeletons and other artifacts more that 500 years old of the Tainos people where found in a archeological excavation of the village that was in the past, on the terrain of the Manatee National Park Preserve. The Taínos were pre-Colombian inhabitants of the Bahamas, Greater Antilles, and the northern Lesser Antilles. It is believed that the seafaring Taínos were relatives of the Arawakan people of South America. Their language is a member of the Maipurean linguistic family, which ranges from South America across the Caribbean. At the time of Columbus’s arrival in 1492, there were five Taíno kingdoms and territories on Hispaniola (modern day Dominican Republic and Haiti), each led by a principal Cacique (chieftain), to whom tribute was paid. As the hereditary head chief of Taíno tribes, the cacique was paid significant tribute. Caciques enjoyed the privilege of wearing golden pendants called guani, living in square bohíos instead of the round ones the villagers inhabited, and sat on wooden stools when receiving guests. At the time of the Spanish conquest, the largest Taíno population centers may have contained over 3,000 people each. The Taínos were historical neighbors and enemies of the fierce Carib tribes, another group with origins in South America who lived principally in the Lesser Antilles. The relationship between the two groups has been the subject of much study. This photo as is , taken with my Photosmart HP R927 camera, NO enhancement watch so ever!

On the second day we were in Punta Cana, a storm rolled in and eventually turned the horizon black. This was taken about an hour before but the warning of wind, rain and darkness were already present in the early afternoon. A collection of images from the trip of a lifetime with my good friend Marlene to the Dominican Republic, February 2009. It was an Air Canada vacation and we stayed at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana. This resort was outstanding! The meals were delicious served in a variety of fabulous restaurants, the beach and views incredible, the ocean was a warm turquoise, and a fantastic pool stretched from one side of the resort to the other. The service was wonderful as the staff is comprised of a warm, joyful and gracious Dominican people that went out of their way to ensure our stay was everything we dreamed of! / I would not hesitate to recommend this area and resort to anyone!
