9×12 watercolor enhanced colored pencil on Arches “satin” finish paper. Part of a series. / Many consider the Trakehner to be Europe’s finest warmblood and the ideal competition horse. During World War II, 1,200 Trakehners, out of 25,000 registered in the East Prussian studbook, were trekked 900 miles across Europe to prevent them from falling into Soviet hands. Using this nucleus, German breeders have been able to preserve the breed. / It originated in the 13th century studs of the Teutonic Knights, in what used to be East Prussia. They used indigenous Schweiken ponies, descendants of the Tarpan, as a base. The Royal Trakehner Stud was founded by Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia in 1732, and aimed to produce active coach horses. Spent a happy 2 hours reshooting and having fun with smoke art. / Reshoot as I’d lost 2 shoots when my disk went “boom!” some time back – this was one of them. Been meaning to get this done – just that it gets really stuffy with joss sticks!

Lemon splash into water – another cliche shot that like water-drop shots is something that should be tried. A rainy sunday today finally made me try this using a couple of flashes and a glass flower vase (as my tank). I did a bunch of others – but the cliched lemon had to be the first! Nikon D80 / Nikon 105 AF-S VR lens / f/11; 1/180sec; ISO400 / SB600 & SB800 fired wirelessly in manual mode using Cactus wireless triggers. / SB600 aimed at the background / SB800 home-made snooted and aimed down into the vase TUTORIAL: How to Splash Click image to view larger Click image to view larger
