After some weeks of devoloping this piece in my mind it finally just started to come together. As usual I went at the theme with something different in mind. What are we to say about how the divine eye sees our world or we may see the divine world in comparison to our own. This thought inspired a more surreal feel to the finished product. Crown Jewel ~ inspired by the Taj Mahal, which is often referred to as / ‘Poetry in Stone’ The History of Lost Love / Shah Jahan of the Mogul dynasty was yet to accede the throne when he heard about the unsurpassed beauty of Mumtaz. He took Mumtaz as his third wife in 1612. For the next 18 years Shah Jahan and Mumtaz were inseparable. Shah Jahan took his wife along on every journey and war campaign. Over the years Mumtaz came to be his best friend, his critic and a canny political adviser. Mumtaz was expecting their 14th child when Shah Jahan embarked on a campaign against the Lodhi Empire in 1631. In the heat of the Indian summer, the army traveled to the Deccans. Mumtaz, who had accompanied the emperor, went through a rigorous childbirth. She died in Burhanpur. On her deathbed, she asked her husband to promise her that he would build a monument to their love. Legend has it that he locked himself in his room for eight days without food after Mumtaz passed away. After burying Mumtaz temporarily in Burhanpur, Shah Jahan went about constructing the Taj Mahal in right earnest. He summoned the best architects and artisans from far away lands like Multan, Kannauj, Lahore, Iraq and Persia. He arranged for the best marble from all around. It took 22 years, 22,000 people, 400 elephants and 32 million rupees to build the Taj Mahal. The result: an awe-inspiring structure, which is one of the most globally recognized symbols of grace and beauty. The Magnificent Monument / Built on a raised, square platform it is as tall as a 20-storey building. You enter through an imposing gateway. The complex consists of an elaborate garden set in the typical charbagh style, a mosque, a guesthouse and several other charming buildings. The mausoleum itself stands at the farthest end of the complex, right along the Yamuna River. The signature central dome (58 ft in diameter and 213 ft high) is truly magnificent and is echoed in the smaller domed chambers on all sides. The four slender minarets that rise from the corners of the mausoleum complete the picture of symmetry. The undisputed majesty and beauty is further reflected in the exquisite artistry created by inspired artisans from Baghdad, Shiraz and Bukhara. Exquisite floral patterns and calligraphy on both the exterior and interior were inlaid with precious stones such as jasper and agate. Quotations from the Koran were etched into stone archways; a pinnacle was set on the central dome; and thus came to life the most splendid resting place a lover could ever hope to find on this planet! Taken from the parking lot at Clingmans Dome,GSMNP. The mountain was named for Brigadier General Thomas Lanier Clingman, by Arnold Guyot a geographer. Clingman in the 1850’s was the first to accurately measure the height of the mountain. The mountain was called Kuwa’hi (the mulberry place) by the Cherokee. This is where the legendary great bear chief and doctor dwelled.In whose magic bath the wounded bears are restored to health…Settlers first called it Smoky Dome then later was called Mount Buckley before Guyot named it offically

Taking a few minutes before my “Days End”. The colors are much cooler showing why these are known as the lower Blue Ridge Mountains. The foggy mist is why these particular mountains became known as the Smokys. So often in making sunset/sunrise shots photographers shoot one or two shots and move on. This time of day is one of rapidly changing tones. Some of the most dramatic shots can be made after most have left or got there. When the clouds are illuminated by the sun after/before it has pasted the horizon. Those photographers willing to slow down an spend some time will be the ones fully enjoying this time of day when the warm/cool colors met, mingle, and drift apart. Finding The Lost Civilization of Reimini Day 17…. / Finding the lost civilization of Reimini was the most treacherous trek we had ever made in our 22 yrs of archaeology. We lost many along the way but when we arrived we were astonished at the architectural design and still standing structures. It appeared to be preserved by the icy colds of the mountainous range of Reimite in the southern hemisphere. Strange devices and tools were found unlike any mankind had used in history. It was almost alien like until we found a skeleton of what we hoped was a native to this era. The bones were similar to our own but the abdominal cavity showed traces of what appeared to have been 2 stomaches. Upon further examination 2 hearts once occupied this individual. My husband and I had first heard of the Reimini by an old ex-C.I.A. agent who specialized in covert ops. He was sent to the region some 16 yrs ago to retrieve a box from the location, he never opened it. But kept a map of the location all these years and told us he saw strange things their and structures unlike any built in the last 2000 yrs. Image & Text Copyright © 2008 Lisa Weber. Actually it’s a view up the atrium of the Galleries Lafayette* (previously incorrectly referred to as ‘Printemps’) department store in Paris, France. They’re remarkably indulgent about tourists taking photos from the balconies on each floor (and in my case, although not for this shot, from the floor of the cosmetics department looking upwards). *The view from the roof is pretty spectacular, too, by the way – and it’s free!
