I like the way that she looked as if she was wanting to come into my world.

Another in Skye’s neo-primitive series with Australian Aboriginal influences. This design features a diving Dolphin, a creature often associated with mythologies in coastal civilisations around the World, including Australia. This design was first hand-painted onto rock then photographed to produce this print effect. “Dolphin Dreaming” is one of my early works painted with a cool 3D painting medium that I formulated a few years ago. I consider this series my tribute to the many happy years I lived in Australia as a nearly starving artist :o-) Thanks for viewing my art. ~ Skye

I visited Tasmania in March 2009 with Sophie (and we got engaged). The day after I asked her to Marry me, we woke early and went down to Sleepy Bay to make some photographs of the waves crashing against the rocks. After we took a few photos a pod of dolphins swam into the bay and started surfing down the waves right in front of us. It was a very special moment for us to sit and watch them and take some photos to share.

Cruisin’ Together Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © The original photo I took while out in our boat off Dunk Island, Queensland. We had about twenty of these dolphins quietly swimming around us feeding on hundreds of bait fish. She calls to me from beyond / out at the edge of the reef / I can not join her there / or at least this is my belief I would walk out at low tide / and stand on the edge / I would talk to her there / as the water lapped at the edge As it rose higher / I would retreat to the shore / and there she was just beyond / calling to me once more… Then one day I was late / and I rushed out to the reef / she was not waiting for me / and I cried out my grief… I thought I had lost her / and the fault was all mine / I dived over the edge / to forever end my lonely time… But as I touched the crystal surface / I became what I longed to be / my body shimmered and changed / and I became a dolphin of the sea And out in the distance I saw her / Waiting beyond the reef / and I finally joined the one I loved / and left behind my life of grief. / ~Stacy Quackenbush
Final of 4 digital artwork created for a WWF FDC envelope issue Without doubt, dolphins are beautiful critters, but I have to confess I usually find them rather boring to paint, as they are a usually a uniform dull grey with no real distinguishing features ( apart from that ‘smile’) like rows of jagged teeth like sharks, interesting body shape or dazzling markings like many fish. So they aren’t much of a challenge for me. However, this dolphin, along with the other 3 in this issue are an exception and I actually had quite a lot of fun painting them.
