This woman is a victim of a seemingly never ending war in southern congo. She has suffered sexual violence (rape) so severe it has rendered her incontinent. She now exists purely as a result of a courageous charity called Heal Africa, and indeed her own inner strength and faith. I asked her if I could take her portrait and she stood up (which must have been painful), straightened her back and stared straight down the lens. No stopping to straighten her scarf, no preening, no fear. Just an honesty so raw, so uninhibited and so rare, I caught my breath and thought I’d never breath again. I was totally overpowered by her intensity. After I took the shot and showed it to her she smiled and thanked me. It still gives me a shiver to look at it now. HEAL Africa calendar available now!!! This is my Doom skull logo i am currently working on for a bigger piece that i will eventually finish, but i liked the skull as a solo element as well so i thought i would upload it as a shirt design! Featuring CCTV is always watching, capitalism barcode mouth.. can anyone tell me how to upload a close / enlarged version of my design into this section so people can actually view it properly?

Isn’t another bad day (yet again) on the stock markets the perfect time to show you my latest still life in the “nostalgia” series, entitled: the stock market. / As usual, old and new elements are mingled together. The painted with light technique was used again, as well as digital manipulation to get the end result I was after. / It’s strange, I spent months planning this shot, preparing and getting the props and then in a few hours time it’s shot. It’s almost an anti-climax. / Well, I hope you enjoy it! / By the way, this is the fourth installment in this series, I’m withholding the second one which I consider my masterpiece in this series. Spaghetti Westerns are a movie genre that will always live on in history and in particular the great work of director Sergio Leone. I’ve alway been a fan of his style of cinematography and the related imagery that accompanied his films, putting him at the top of this genre with The Man With No Name Trilogy; A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.. With these and other films suchs as Once Upon a Time in the West and Once Upon A Time in America this guy really did become the master at creating a visual feast for the eye, creating sepia landscapes from charismatic faces that would linger and linger… / I’ve been messing around on PS today and in a way, this is something that became an homage to that style.. Living in Saudi I dont get to see many cowboys, so I guess you could call this a Spaghetti Middle Eastern!

This child is around 8. She had just been rescued from being a sex slave to one of the militias in D.R. Congo. She was clearly traumitised and I had to photograph her in near darkness. I have hesitated all this time putting the shot up as I believe it so accurately captures her pain, I feel uncomfortable. But the story needs to be told. The pain needs to be seen, sadly. Please pray for the Rwandas, Somalias, Congos and sadly now Kenyas of this world. As long as the barbarity is repeated so will the images be. It’s not for sale. But you can still give to HEAL Africa. healafrica.org There are tickets available for a lunch where Lyn Lusi the head of HEAL Afrcia will be talking. So far no takers.
