I have never really liked the pigeons . . . but on this particular day I was just minding my own business when this flock of pigeons landed on the ground near me. This one in particular, took a spot on my knee and just kept looking up at me. I of course, happened to have my camera in hand (i think they thought there might be some food in it) He kept looking at me, trying to figure me out and probably wondering why I was pointing this thing at him. He honestly had a personality and made me laugh. So . . have I changed my mind about the ‘winged rat’ . . . well, after seeing his beautiful colors and experiencing his charming personality, I will give the pigeon another chance. In honor of my new pigeon friend . . I dedicate this song to our little chance meeting. Thank you Bert! And thank you pigeon. “Doin’ the Pigeon” song by Bert (Sesame Street)

Birds are, it seems, more sociable in winter…this chicken and her friends ran away from me in Summer! I was greeted by something of a menagerie on my latest trip to Balmaha. The harbour was frozen and the birds were all looking for food. I found myself surrounded by chickens, ducks, sparrows, chaffinches, robins, thrushes and blackbirds!
