This house was next to my father-in-law’s place in the Algarve, southern Portugal, and every morning these dogs rested their snouts in these roof windows while taking a snooze. They couldn’t believe I waited almost a week before taking their picture!
found a cute greeting card and drew it, 2004 :) / graphite pencils on smooth bristol paper.

Well it’s Sunday again and there they sit with their vanilla lattes all comfy on the sofa, settled in for the day of football. Can’t they see the sun is shining and it would be an awesome day to go out and play in the mountians. Ever since they got that damn NFL Sunday Ticket this is how the day is spent what a waste. I think I might need to find a new family that doesn’t watch football. 504 views

Oshie, a rescue dog, checks out the beach during a beautiful sunrise on the beach in Port Orford, Oregon. Oshie is a shepherd mix who loves to run on the beach… and roll in unidentifiable dead things that she finds. She somehow became unwanted by her former owner when she was only about a year old. Yet she is such a wonderful dog! Nikon D200 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom lens at 18mm. 1/60th, f/4.0, ISO250 Added to the RedBubble Featured Gallery 08-Feb-2009

This is Isaac, he was rescued from the local pound here in Leitchfield Ky. We rescued him at 14 weeks. Isaac is an Australian Shepherd. He is partially deaf and almost blind. He is the victim of very bad breeding , which is the reason for so many problems. At first I thought he was a mix but when I showed him to a breeder here she told me that he was pure, but the victim of a lousy breeder. I was told he is what they call a “Lethal White” which is the result of breeding a merle to a merle that can produce some beautiful pups but around 25% of pups will have problems as Isaac does but many times much worse. They will destroy those pups at birth, therefore the name! He was left on a chain at 9 weeks of age when his previous owners just moved away and left him there. Their next door neighbor didn’t help him or call anyone for 4 days. Poor little guy was skin and bones with no food or water left for him. The day he picked me out, was the first time I had ever been to our local shelter, went there looking for a female adult large breed such as a Doberman, because I had just lost my best girl of 19 years. I felt him looking at me even before I saw him, fell in love with him, went home told my husband about him, he made it clear to me that I must have lost my mind, because Isaac was everything that I swore I would never own. He was male, plus coat, medium size, puppy, well that went well. Was there early the next morning to take him home, I found out that day was to be his last day there, lucky lucky us! He is the most wonderful little guy we could ever hope for. He thinks we are pretty cool too!

19×24 watercolor enhanced colored pencil. Original available. The German Shepherd Dog (also Alsatian) is a popular breed of dog. German Shepherds are highly intelligent, agile and well-suited to active working environments. They are often deployed in various roles such as police work, guarding, search and rescue, therapy and in the military. Based on 2006 American Kennel Club statistics, German Shepherd Dogs are the third most popular breed in the United States with 43,575 registrations. They can also be found working as guide dogs for the blind. Despite their suitability for such work, German Shepherds can also make loyal and loving pets inside the home. They enjoy being around people and other animals, although socialization is critical for young puppies in order to prevent aggressive and dangerous behavior. German Shepherds are well-suited to obedience, with advanced and prestigious titles available to test both the handler and dog in various schutzhund trials. The proper English name for the breed is German Shepherd Dog (a literal translation from the German Deutscher Schäferhund) but they are usually informally referred to as GSDs or as “German Shepherds”. In addition, the sobriquet police dog is used in many countries where the GSD is the predominant or exclusive breed used by the police force. Anti-German sentiment was still high in the wake of World War I (1914 – 1918), and change of German-oriented names in the UK – including that of the Royal Family – were common at the time when a few dogs were taken to Britain and the United States. In 1919, the English Kennel Club gave the breed a separate register. Since it was feared that the name German Shepherd Dog could be an impediment, the name Alsatian was introduced, from Alsace, a traditionally German-speaking French area on the west bank of the Rhine which had been annexed by the German Empire in 1870 but restored to France in 1918. This name is still used in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and the Commonwealth. Only in 1977 did the British Kennel Club authorize the breed to be known again as the German Shepherd Dog.
