You may think this painting looks rather naive but that is how things look to me. You can see a building with a cross; this used to be a Catholic Convent with about ten resident nuns. Students live there now. / Every day, a crowd of people comes to socialise around their dogs. It is a happy scene. There is a very rare disagreement among the dogs, but, I hope, not between the owners. / The creek runing through the park has been rescued from its neglected state and fish and birds have returned. / A busy road runs nearby. / I hope this is a happy painting.

This is an image that I entered in the 2009 Shoot The Chef competition. My mate is the fishmonger and I was trying to capture the nature of the close relationship between chef and providore that is essential for the creation of fantastic food. It didn’t win, or get short listed, but it was fun and challenging to do. This was shot with my Nikon D3 using the available light.

My dog Briar is a colorful character—but not this colorful. The colors here have been heightened and shapes simplified. For me it helps to make the beautiful curves and forms in this picture more visible.
