  • A long lens and a little patience rewarded me with a silhouetted fishing boat with a large glowing sun in the background. This was taken at Bang Sare. One of my favourite sunset locations. I used to go there often when I lived in Bangkok but it is many hundreds of kilometres from where I live now. Featured in JPG Cast-Offs and Exotic Thailand groups. / Featured in Nautical group – 18th October, 2009 / Featured in Going Coastal group – 19th October, 2009 Canon 20D with 70-200 mm lens.

  • One of the most ‘infamous’ landmarks of WW2. This ‘Death Railway’ bridge evokes strong emotions for those who served or whose family members did. I have been there several times and also to Hellfire Pass and cannot help but to be moved by the story of the railroad’s construction. This particular image was taken on a very misty day and I particularly liked how the bridge seems to run off into a tunnel of foliage.

  • Driving across Mungo Lake (dry), in outback Australia, I looked in the rear view mirror and saw this spectacular scene. I quickly pulled up and took the image. People often ask me what image is my favourite, well, I have several but this one sure is way up the top of the list.

  • When I lived in Bangkok, even though I had a car, one of my favourite ways of getting around was by Tuk Tuk. Three wheeled machines that defy all laws of physics, and the road. This image was taken with a very wide lens as we sped through traffic to our destination. Lot’s of fun :<)

  • A row of fishing boats, still water and a beautiful blue sky provide a superb scene for a peaceful image. I took this about 4 years back and am still always drawn to it. A quiet little beach on Koh Samui where fishermen live and work. Featured in JPG Cast-Offs and Going Coastal groups. / Featured in Art In Asia group – 19th October, 2009

  • There is a story to many of my images and this one is no exception. I was walking around Wat Suthet which is at the base of the ‘Golden Mount’ in Bangkok. I noticed a group of monks going into the temple and decided to see why. When I got to the door I saw many monks sitting inside. I was quite excited as this type of image I had wanted to get for a long time. Quietly, I set myself up to capture the image. My camera has a silent shutter and I squeezed the button and then, with a big grin on my face, turned to leave. Whilst I had noticed the scaffolding surrounding the temple, I had forgotten all about it as I was taking the image. The crossbar of the scaffolding just outside the door was at forehead height and, you guessed it, bang. As the blow was quite painful a, relatively, loud expletive escaped my lips. I gathered my composure, dared not look back and carefully slipped away. Featured in Art In Asia – 27th October, 2009

  • Originally cloistered, in what must have been a spectacular temple complex, this row of Buddhas has been restored and the faithful have draped them in bright orange cloaks. This is about half the row and is at Wat Yai Chai Mongkol in Ayuthaya. Sold as a mounted print – May, 2009. Thank you to the buyer. • I was commissioned to take images for a book on Bangkok and this was the one I chose for the cover. This is Wat Arun – the Temple of Dawn in Bangkok on the Chao Praya river. / In the end, the editor decided on a different one – never mind – this, however, is right near the top of my favourite images.

  • Sydney has many attractions but, I’m sure, the two most well known are the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Quite a few years back now, I got up very early one morning, braved the cold, setup the camera and took this image. I really like the glow from the light just before the sun came up. Scan from Fujichrome. Have sold as a laminated print to someone on RB. Thank you whoever purchased !

  • ... For me anyway. No Photoshop trickery. This is real. For you ‘Pool’ buffs, it’s a Brunswick Metro table and was almost brand new when I took it. I was shooting images for a pool hall promotion, in Bangkok. Simply, a half second exposure, available light, and trying to time the shutter release for the break. Took a bit of anticipation as the ball comes very fast. Featured in Dimensions group.

  • Saw these from the road and wandered in to get a closer image. Beautiful bright colours.

  • The fishing boat is dwarfed by the setting sun as it heads home to harbour at Sattathip. Thank you to whoever purchased this image in a large laminated print format :<)

  • As the day closes, fishermen sort their catch on the beach at the small fishing port of Sathahip, Thailand. This image was awarded 1st place in the ‘A Day Fishing’ challenge conducted by Digital Photography Review – July, 2009 Featured in JPG Cast – Offs and Street Photography And Photojournalism Canon 20D with 10-22 mm lens.

  • In New Zealands South Island, a tranquil scene of farm lands, sheep and Alpine ranges. Featured in JPG – Cast Offs, Featured Only and Mountains and Mountain Light.

  • A stunning sunset at Krabi, Thailand. I love the golden splash of colour on the sea. Scan from Kodak E100G – My all-time favourite film !

  • Morning comes, I kiss the earth / Bringing life for all – rebirth / Warm your day and light your path / Chase the dark away / Above and around I cast my glow / I’m always there, see the shadow / As day wears on, I must depart / I sink low, I cast colours / To gladden your heart / As day departs and night comes close / I kiss the sea, to leave you with your starry host

  • Silhouetted by a beautiful sunset afterglow, this fishing boat leaves port for it’s nights work.

  • Walking along the beach, I saw this man about 200 metres away carrying his net. I ran up the beach as I knew he would soon cast it. When I got there I took this first image and then several others as he cast again. This was the one though. Krabi, Thailand. Featured in JPG Cast-Offs / Featured in Going Coastal – 19th August, 2009

  • Just one of a series of images where I have been capturing the daily life of folk, in the back alley ways of Hua Hin. Often shooting through open doors or windows, there is a veritable maze of very narrow pathways and alleys which criss-cross the city. One of those occasions where I force myself out of my comfort zone and wander places I normally would not. See all the series here Also, part of a series on Thai Faces and Daily Life. • Pre fight ‘dance’. A short series following a young Thai boxer, on fight night. View all the series here Also, part of a series on Thai Faces and Daily Life. See all the series here FujiFilm S100 fs

  • A fishing boat skipper haggles with buyers, on the pier above him, over the price for his catch. Taken at the fishing port of Ao Noi (small bay) at Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand.

  • One of the many tourists attractions close to Bangkok, is the floating market at Damnoen Saduak. This area has seen trade conducted in this manner for, possibly, hundreds of years. Today, many vendors still set out in their boats to sell their wares. Lately a little commercialised, it is still an interesting place to visit.

  • A fisherman repairs his nets at the fishing village at Hua Hin, Thailand. The thing that caught my attention here was the woven bamboo flooring. I’m not that heavy, but was wary about where I stepped.

  • Young Muay Thai fighter. A short series on the art of Muay Thai. See all the series here Also, part of a series on Thai Faces and Daily Life.
