A shot of a polar bear shortly after it had dived into it’s underwater enclosure.
Red Bubble’s First Book /// In the Moment /// Overall Winner / I found myself in Geneva for a week for work last year. The only other time I had been to Switzerland was Zurich for 2 nights in the middle of winter, so I was kind of surprised by the beautiful (and hot!) summer weather I experienced on this visit. / The Lake at Geneva is where everyone goes to cool off and I was mesmerised watching all these crazy dudes doing amazing things off a high-dive on the edge of the lake. I took a few shots and managed to capture this moment among them. / I entered this work into the 2007 Linden Gallery Post Card Show in St.Kilda, and was absolutely stoked to have been awarded one of the six entries to be reproduced as postcards and sold through the gallery.

Medium: Acrylic and Watercolour Paint on Paper / Size: A4 / Description: About an octopus who has developed a suit so that he may walk with the humans. Portrait of a False-Clown Anemonefish, Amphiprion ocellaris This host anemone’s amazing golden is unfortunately caused by bleaching. Similar to corals, when the water gets too warm the symbiotic algae in the anemone is expelled. Layang Layang, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia
I was lucky enough to spend nearly an hour swimming alongside this juvenille green turtle (Chelonia mydas) on the fringing reef at Lady Elliott Island in the Southern part of the Great Barrier Reef. Lady Elliott is a beautiful island that is home to a wide variety of marine life and seabirds. Best of all the resort is reasonably priced fairly basic accommodation unlike most of the rest of the island resorts in the GBR. If you get the chance then Lady Elliott is well worth the trip. During my week long visit I would have seen more than >10 green turtles, hatchlings on the beach, sharks, rays, gourpers and a myriad of other reef fish. The coral reef on the other side of the island is spactacular with huge plate (Acropora sp.) corals everywhere. It is truly magic.

Sometimes it is better to be lucky than to be good. I did position myself to silhouette the turtle against the sun, but it was pure luck that my initial large exhalation bubble got between me and the turtle and picked up the animal’s reflection. This was shot at Darwin Island in the Galapagos, May, 2007.

Close up shot of some species of Anemone taken in Alor, indonesia. This particular dive consisted entirely of Anemones & their dependants.Slow descending wall which I drifted alone for one hour & literally tens of thousands of them, have never seen anything like it in my life.Apparently the locals eat them when they are hungry enough © All images copyright MattTworkowski
I usually call these divers who dive in freezing cold lakes in the middle of January ‘nutters’ but i went along to see them and i have to admit i actually admired their passion for their sport. This was taken in the Lake District – a very special part of the UK – it was freezing but beautiful. When they go down into the lake after about 8 metres the visability is almost non-existent (apparently this is part of the thrill) and i wanted to convery this vulnerability and isolation in this image.
Thank you to the beautiful and wonderful stock! / beautiful model / beautiful water / /
/ / / Scuba Diva is my latest creation for the “Children of the World” Series / She is a mixed media production created on brown paper over white gesso / using chalk pastels, acyrlic paint and charcoal. Scuba Diva was influenced and inspired by two friends of mine here on Red Bubble, both of their names have the initials MT Muscular Teeth who a great friend of mine challenged me to create this one… and MattTworkowski inspired me with his beautiful photographs from under the sea…. /
