Death becomes you / now that you are dead in my heart / A heavy, heaving lump I carry / within my chest / Yet a vacancy persists / An emptiness exists / In the cavern beneath the crooks of my ribs / You signature on each ivory key / Singing a dulled harmony / Of your pretense of loyalty / And love for me / Death becomes you / Vacant apparition / Modern man of despair / Tell me… Who shall care? / Now that you are dead / To me / Reality / Speak to thee / Death be life / if lived in exile from honesty / May your ashes fade in the wind / as though you never were / or came to be… c. 2008

While looking through my gallery this morning I noticed that few viewers have chosen to look at my photo-pattern Break and only one person has commented on it. The text beside this image is a sort of stream of consciousness style story relating the thoughts of an hourly worker in the automotive plant where I hold my day-job. This factory is slated to shut down at the end of this month, and the atmosphere there is filled with contrasting emotion. The accompanying story relays this thick, foggy atmosphere, and perhaps this is why it’s so hard for viewers to get through and comment on it. After all, nobody enjoys a state of muggy confusion … despite the fact that so many tend to live in it. The most important point I set out to make with this story was the awkward state of politics today. I see candidates battling with each other in a realm far removed from the reality in which the majority of their voters live. The more I learn about the current race, the more I feel like I’m standing on the sidelines watching a game that has little bearing on the current plight of my countrymen. The candidates are so out of touch with the real needs of the people they represent that neither can step out of bounds, so to speak, and grasp the real ball. Of course, this is a deep and polemic topic that could go on and on whereas my objective was simply to bring it to light. I touched on a few examples such as the dismay felt by a thousand workers suddenly in need of a job in an economy of souring prices and unemployment, and the current housing crises where homeowners are foreclosed upon only to find that rents have soured far above the mortgage payments they could no longer afford. This is now a country where cost of living is influenced far too much by one’s “Credit rating” and where renters are forced to pay more for housing because there is suddenly a higher demand for rental property due to the high number of people who have lost their homes. Meanwhile; the government is focusing on how to bail out the banks and mortgage companies and how long we can continue spending billions of dollars abroad. It’s a sickening contrast; like the bright, colorful tables in a foggy break room heavy with confusion and despair.
