Louisville, Kentucky USA 21 April 2008 10:06 PM EST This shot was NOT easy due to another photographer trying to take this same night shot using a flash. From this vantage point, the city is one mile away. He ruined 5 of my long exposures with his flash. Finally, I politely ask him to please let me get one good shot. / MCN: C30-NP3U-4430

WARNING: Viewer Discretion Strongly Adviced! This is my first wake-up call in my domestic Violence series. On my old art account I created this series and got quite attention for my work. But what is my goal with that? To manifest with my art that world peace starts at home and you can only end Domestiv Violence when you face the issue and cannot look away from this rapidly growing problem. Could you look away from this artwork? Does this completely caught your attention? It should since those are worlds millions of people hear right now in this very moment and even worse. Did you know: - Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime - The most rapid growth in domestic relations caseloads is occurring in domestic violence filings. Between 1993 and 1995, 18 of 32 states with three year filing figures reported an increase of 20 percent or more. - In a national survey of more than 6,000 American families, 50 percent of the men who frequently assaulted their wives also frequently abused their children. Slightly more than half of female victims of intimate violence live in households with children under age 12. Studies suggest that between 3.3 – 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually. And this is not even the tip of the Iceberg, those are just a few noted statistics, but it is fact that this is not even the half of all “happening” cases around the world. What drove me to make this series? A lot. Someone very close and myself come out of violent families. My life long I have been treated like the sun wouldn’t shine for me too. Years long I have been hid from reality and locked in darkness, I lost my childhood and my youth through domestic violence and I can say that today strong like a rock. My life today is a lot better, my wife gives me the love I never had and felt and I give her the same back in my adornment and service. Unfortunately many woman/children/men go through this hell this very moment but the only problem politicians care about is to build up the nuke stock in their rocket facilities. They rather care to invest more money in war and weaponary as to support families, women and children who deserve a chance to live a happy life like our human and religious right tells us. I want to catch your attention with this image to say to you as a brother of this world, that you have the same rights to live as any other person, your gender, your creed or race doesn’t matter since we are all the same human, the same valuable and same unique and under the face of God are we all the same. Our lifetime is important and how we recieve our family, friends and even our neighbours will not be unseen, the generations will copy your behaviour and treat others the same. So…could you look away? I have a major plan with thi series since I would love to expand this as big as I can (even public plans), the next days will crystalize if I can move someones hearts or not. So, if you look right now at this artwork, and got some free time, leave a comment, and tell me how you feel about it. I can’t and won’t look away.

KEEP TALKING FEATURED IN AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE My husband listening to Bruce Springsteen’s song American Skin, popularly called 41 Shots. A poignant and moving moment for me. Those of you who have not heard the song should give it a listen. The song was inspired by the New York City police shooting death of Amadou Diallo. Coal processing plant in Jefferson County Kentucky. This site is a stone’s throw across the Ohio River from the multi-million dollar Caesar’s Casino in southern Indiana. American Lung Association Air Quality Report CLICK HERE American Lung Association State of the Air 2006 In 2005, EPA announced another gutting of Clean Air Act rules for polluting industries, making public policy out of an industry excuse the Agency had fought in court in 2002. Then in February 2006, the U.S. Department of Justice, the federal government’s legal arm, announced that it was moving away from enforcing the law against the dirtiest of the industrial polluters, coal-fired power plants. so, um… can somebody remind me again as to why somebody would hate somebody else on the basis of skin (or in this case, feather) color? (inspired by James Victore and Barbara Kruger, two of my favorite graphic designers!)

Please note that it is signed ‘R.L.S.’ not Arletta. That is because R.L.S. is how I signed my work, for years, due to that I started signing it that way as a teenager when I was in a band and those were the initials of my stage name, which I had intended to change my name to legally later on in life. I’ve fairly recently given that up, but I still slip, sometimes. Inspired by my accidentally having a phrase left over that I had been quoting in response to a blog, really. The blog was a bit intense, about the abuse of men in relationships, and the words were from a person commenting on it. I call this mixed media, digital style, because it is textual art and “oil painting”, too.

Group challenge-spirituality in another dimension

I am launching a group challenge in the Parallel Dimensions Group. Those of you in the Practising the Dark Arts group will be aware of recent discrimination on redbubble by the living christianity group regarding spiritual beliefs. You can read about it all here in this / forum I was inspired by this to think up a group challenge: to come up with a work-be it an image or writing-with the theme of spiritual discrimination and difference in a parallel dimension. What could be the spirituality in this other world? since the group is just getting off the ground it will be running from now until the end of April. Here is a text to get you thinking: Imagine another dimension, another world- / one in which the essence of life can be seen, / one in which auras flow like rainbows shining in the rain / one in which spirits can be seen to one and all, / one in which those who can use energies and colours for healing are our doctors, / one in which other planes of existance are known / one in which the energy from all living creatures, trees, rocks, waters, flow around us and through us / where spiritual ideas are open and individual / what kind of world would this be? I will choose two finalists per category, then leave the voting up to you to come up with a winner in each the art and writing, the winning image will be the groups avatar for the month, and both wil be featured on the groups homepage. You can submit up to two entries per category (art, writing) and please tag with sdpdart or sdpdwriting. Thanks all :)

Public “sorries” by appealing politicians, all well and good, I suppose, but not far to the right of centre, there still remains an insiduous “prejudicial” attitude that far too many in this country, this nation, this “land of the long weekends” that remains … an example of this, not that many years ago, is as blatant as it is ignborant as this … Legislative Council on 4 December 2003 during the debate on the establishment of the Natural Resource Commission and the Catchment Management Authorities (from Hansard) “It is absolutely frightening that this myth continues to pervade society. When it comes to this nonsense of theft of land, Aboriginal culture does not even recognise land ownership. And had white settlement not come along, what would the Aboriginal people be doing with the land today?” “They would be doing the same as they had always done: hunt, fish and set it on fire. / Aboriginal people need us to help them make it into the twenty-first century. As Australians, this continual separation of them as a different group to the rest of us just holdsthem back.” ~ Hon. David Oldfield Relatively speaking, 5 years later, is not that long, and I doubt the likes of these political astutes have left the building, nor have less influence on mainstream agendas — Apology or not. Their agenda still remains — land, economics, rip-offs, and dispossession … Oh yeh, I’m sorry, I just can’t help my self …

In July 2007, the Howard Government, in Australia, brought in what they called ” The Intervention” in the Northern Terratory. This was a series of steps to address the reported abuses that were occuring in Indigenous Communities. Due to the fact that these measures were directed solely at Indigenous Peoples, they had to write laws to negate the Racial Discrimination Laws. As yet, the Rudd Labor Government has not reversed these laws, and Indigenous peoples can be legally discriminated against. Some say the ‘Intervention” was only brought into gain control of the mineral rights over indigenous areas.
