I live in Massachusetts. Sooner or later, a story like this one is inevitable for any writer who lives there, and feels the awful weight of history and the gaze of those stern Puritan witch-hunters upon them. That’s right, folks, a little over 300 years ago, if I’d written this story, they’d no doubt have burned me on Gallows Hill.

I often engage in chat with RB folk and when I mention (or they discover for themselves) that I am from Northern Ireland, they somehow turn the conversation to their ancestory and often I have discovered that American, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand folk do like to discuss that their grandparents, etc originated from our emerald green isle. I personally think that this is pretty cool. I do have a great interest in my own ancestory and heritage and I have discovered a lot of information about my own family roots. I can trace my family tree back to 1609 and beyond (I say beyond as that era then becomes patchy and difficult to find solid evidence or documentation on same). I do know that our family name does stem back to the registry of the doomsday book in the form of Jack/Jack’s) ... My family name is Jackson. A local historian (now deceased) Mr D J McCartney dedicated 19 years of his own life to research our family tree. It is recorded in the following book:- This book is a first class read whether or not your family name happens to be ‘Jackson’ ... it links Stonewall Jackson (Confederate General) and Andrew Jackson (US President) as direct blood relations and also outlines some of our other great military men that were prominent figures in the great world wars, Vietnam, Korea, Irish wars and many more. I am proud to be a direct blood relative in this line of Ulster Jacksons and am so pleased that my father (also named Stonewall) and I are pictured and recorded here as the latest of the line. My own children now take that honour (this book was published in 1997). I hope that you source this book and read it. Like ive said, it is a great read and I think it would have the effect of perhaps ‘kick starting’ you to begin researching your own family name/roots. It is an interesting and rewarding journey! This book is available on Amazon.com and from main source:- Carrickfergus Borough Council, Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim, N.Ireland, BT38. Thanks for spending time reading this entry ….. much appreciated! x SNAPPYDAVE

  • I was pleased to capture this man walking towards the docks with his bag and the houses of Kassies Bay in the background. How does your day start? Do you drive to work – is it long distance or do you walk like him? Fleeting moment in time but I hope you take the time to look long enough at the photo and start asking questions yourself as I often do. So many people on this planet, so many dreams, so many ambitions…what road will you take through life? I was really taken with this photographer – unusual Ariel shots, and the work is amazing the detail and the light is to die for ( just my opinion ) looking back to the old masters especially with black and white work is a real education for me. I can’t believe this guy, he flew by the seat of his pants literally Crashed 9 times !! He was seriously injured on his last flight but that didn’t stop him. “Alfred Buckham began his career in photography in 1905 and joined the Royal Naval Air Service as a reconnaissance photographer in 1917. He became the first head of aerial reconnaissance for the Royal Navy in the First World War and later a captain in the Royal Naval Air Service. Buckham was involved in 9 crashes, 8 of which saw him relatively unscathed. After the ninth, however, he had to have a tracheotomy and breathed through a small pipe in his neck for the rest of his life. Despite this, he carried on his aerial photography career, often in very perilous conditions. He felt the best shots were made standing up ,writing If one’s right leg is tied to the seat with a scarf or a piece of rope, it is possible to work in perfect security. ” taken directly From Wikipedia, some links to his work – the telegraph link has approx 13 shots http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2123426/Alfred-G-Buckham-aerial-photos.html http://www.nationalgalleries.org/collection/online_az/4:322/result/0/17391?initial=B&artistId=15583&artistName=Alfred%20G%20Buckham&submit=1

  • This is Akasha, she lives at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Akasha is a Female Bengal tiger – Born August 13, 2008 In this photo Akasha is messing with one of the bigger Tigers and gets put in her place when the older tiger gets irritated with her, she realizes she not so big after all. The current population of wild Bengal tigers in the Indian subcontinent is estimated to be between 1,300 and 1,500. Of these, 1,411 are found in the wild in India while about 280 are found in Bangladesh, mostly in the Sunderbans. Over the past century tiger numbers have fallen dramatically. Of eight sub-species alive in 1900, three are now extinct and we have lost over 90 per cent of wild tigers.
