Candid photography isn’t something I feel comfortable with – I don’t know what it is about candid photography that frightens me. If I had more confidence, then I would have shot this front on, taking may different angles to shoot and get the message across. Instead, I waited until I was almost past before plucking the courage to snap just this one frame. To grow means to remove yourself from your comfort zone and try something new. To somehow disconnect yourself from your fear – whatever that fear may be.

My Entry in the “London Calling” competition … I wanted to give the shadow character a sense of menace, as well as being loyal to what the Union Jack/ Union Flag represents. I also wanted to give a sense of humour in the metaphor of having the character hold a lone phone handset thats no longer connected; which represents Australia being so disconnected. I could not find it on youtube or any other place on the web.. From a series where I work with all my emotions, dreams, nightmares and fears in general. I work in the dark with a flashlight and my Nikon D-300 on long exposure mode. Some times I stage the things I want to work with, but most of the time I work intuitive letting the emotions flow free…

This is one of the power and telephone pole across the road from my house. Being so close to home it has taken me over a year to pick up the camera, walk to my front gate and take a photo of it!
