  • I feel like I have so many words about this image and yet I can’t seem to find them… I can say that it hit me in the gut when I finished making it! / maybe I’m just hungry? Mmmm food… / wonders off in search of food Detail /

  • This is a collaborative transatlantic entry between myself and the incredibly talented and totally awesome billyboy in Belgium for RedBubbles Gaia – The Living Planet competition. Now, I’m not a religious person, but I wanted to illustrate by using billyboys Noah’s Ark image that if we dont start taking care of this planet we are living on I truly / believe we will be in for a disaster of biblical proportions. All that is beautiful and wondrous will simply disappear… like so many ephemeral bubbles. We are all interconnected, and we must find our harmony with Gaia, or risk losing it all. Many thanks to billyboy for sharing my vision, and giving so generously of his time, blood, tears and love to bring this vision into glorious life. Concept: Rhana / Background artwork: Billyboy / Art within the bubbles: Rhana / Bubble creation: Billyboy / Design: Rhana / Title Inspiration: Billyboy For those interested in buying the totally hawt tee of this image its now available over at billyboys place. Proceeds from sales of the tee go to the STV Foundation.

  • Ref / with special permission from model and photographer pluschkind I bumped into this fantastic image while browsing the photography on deviant art and the photographer/model was happy to let me try my hand at drawing it. / As you can see though, I ended up painting it. oils on watercolour paper. I’ve never tried that before but i had no black watercolour paint so I thought, why not!? So all I used was black oils and turpentine to get the greys, like with watercolours. / The way the white cuts up the image reminded me of an image we’d looked at in my visual culture class, the artist had digitally erased lines through the person to create white tribal markings. this erasure gave me the idea for the title of this piece. This Portrait is available in my 2009 calendar!

  • Twelfth and last of this series, this shot is taken at Chaco Canyon’s Fajada Butte (it was blurry, so I merged it) along with a petroglyph rock just outside the area. At the time we were there, no one was allowed near the Butte. In 1977, on Fajada Butte, Dr. Anna Sofaer discovered the Sun Dagger petroglyphs, a large circular spiral and a small spiral are pecked in a cliff behind 3 large stone slabs. At midday on the Summer solstice, the sun shines between the stone slabs and creates a dagger of light that bisects the large spiral. On midday of the Winter Solstice, two daggers bracket the large spiral. During the Spring and Fall equinoxes, a small dagger of light bisects the small spiral. The slabs also cast a shadow on the large spiral that marks the moon’s 18 point, 6 years cycle of its orbit. Wiki 10th century – 1250A.D. Hope you enjoyed this historical journey through the Anasazi culture, this is dedicated to my granddaughter, Lexi who will be questing at Chaco Canyon at the end of the month.

  • FROM WIKIPEDIA / The causes of the recent warming are an active field of research. The scientific consensus is that the increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases due to human activity has caused most of the warming observed since the start of the industrial era, and the observed warming cannot be satisfactorily explained by natural causes alone. • This is a photo taken in the center courtyard of the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, TX which is a great little fine art museum with wonderful architecture and gorgeous grounds. I applied some textures of a wall I took there on the same day and a royalty-free Victorian clipart of a girl for my “ghost.” I also cropped the regular aspect into a square format and added a vignette with the airbrush tool in Photoshop Elements.
