This dingo in central Australia actually came up to my hand and sniffed it to see if I had any food for him. Seeing that I didn’t he ran off and made himself comfortable in the shade of some tussocks. I took a few shots with the telelense as he was a fair way from me. From these photos I did this drawing. It is not the entire piece, just a detailed section. / Colour pencil and white gouache on brown pastel paper. 1986. Sold Featured in ’ Painted Dogs’ and ‘Pencil Drawing’ groups.

Woofydog – the fat dingo love of my life in action! WhenI was up north in Western Australia I was feeling very alone. I decided to get a dog. I rang up the pound and asked if they could ring me if they found something like a labrador. They rang and said… “Yeh we have this labrador cross and it comes with a free cat!” I went and saw the lady who had this dog and through the door bounded this beautiful dingo/labrador cross and it was instant love. I took her home this night and have never left her side since (I took the cat as well!). She is my constant companion, my best friend and my precious angel. Pre-loved dogs are fabulous. I got her when she was four. Puppies are great, but giving a loving home to a dog that has no where to go makes the world a better place!

  • Another shot of Dingo Creek under Duff’s Bridge – the water was a beautiful aqua colour and oh so still with the occasional rattle of traffic on the old wooden bridge. Dingo Creek is located on the road from Wingham to Ellenborough Falls in NSW Australia – a recommended stop off along the way. /

Wow this is a collection of nearly all the animals I have photographed in the past year.

  • I found this magical spot on Dingo Creek in NSW on the road from Wingham to Ellenborough Falls. From the road this bridge was just another old white wooden bridge but underneath was a photographic haven. The mirrored reflections in this creek were mind boggling and this is just one taken on this occasion. The late afternoon sun was filtering between the trees and hitting the far side of the creek. I used the Nikon D80 and a 18-55 mm lens.

  • Run Out of Steam #1
    by Dennis Gay

    US$6.65–US$152.00

THE SUBJECT: / This old steam engine has not had a fire in her belly nor got up a good head of steam for may a day but even in her dilapidated state she has a presence in the peace and quiet of the reserve. / In her day she would have had a lot of work in supplying the locomotion to run saw mill machinery in the heyday of the logging era from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. / Unfortunately there were no identification plates left on this machine so I have no idea of who the manufacturer was but it was very probably built in England and reassembled on site in the bush. THE LOCATION: / This very old mechanical marvel was photographed at Dingo Tops, part of Tapin Tops National Park, way south west of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a slightly overcast autumn day. / Fuji S9600: RAW, f/4.5 @ 1/60sec, ISO80, High powered flash, Hand held. / S7RAW & Photoshop CS. Visit the Rust & Machinery collection in my BubbleSite Gallery for more corrosion and decay. UPDATE: / 10-11-08 / My thanks to finnhurley for purchasing a card of this old steam engine. Enjoy! Dingo at Healesville Sanctuary, Victoria Australia / The Dingo (Canis lupus dingo) also known as Warrigal, Maliki, Mirigung, Decker Dog, Boololomo, Repeti, or Australian Native Dog, is a feral dog which mostly lives independently from humans. It is generally thought to originate from a population of domesticated dogs, possibly at a single occasion during the Austronesian expansion into Southeast Asia. Though commonly described as an Australian wild dog, it is not restricted to Australia, nor did it originate there and is in fact a feral domestic dog rather than a separate species. Modern dingoes are found throughout Southeast Asia, mostly in small pockets of remaining natural forest, and in mainland Australia, particularly in the north. They have features in common with both wolves and modern dogs, and are regarded as more or less unchanged descendants of an early ancestor of modern dogs. The name dingo comes from the language of the Eora Aboriginal people, who were the original inhabitants of the Sydney area. / Crossbreeding with pet and feral domestic dogs is currently thought to be the dingo’s greatest threat for survival. Up to 80% of the wild dogs along Australia’s eastern seaboard are thought to be dog-dingo crossbreeds.
