Well this is one of those occasions when I turned to the husband and said: “Stop, stop the car, I saw something back there I need to shoot!” / I just couldn’t pass up trying to capture this old barn on the way out the beach this morning. Found this barn along the Oka Rd in Ste-Marthe-sur-le-lac, Quebec CANADA, July 2008 just about 5 minutes from home. The ring is on my hand, And the wreath is on my brow; / Satin and jewels grand Are all at my command, / And I am happy now. And my lord he loves me well; But, when first he breathed his vow, / I felt my bosom swell- For the words rang as a knell, / And the voice seemed his who fell In the battle down the dell, / And who is happy now. But he spoke to re-assure me, And he kissed my pallid brow, / While a reverie came o’er me, And to the church-yard bore me, / And I sighed to him before me, Thinking him dead D’Elormie, / “Oh, I am happy now!” And thus the words were spoken, And this the plighted vow, / And, though my faith be broken, And, though my heart be broken, / Here is a ring, as token / That I am happy now! Would God I could awaken! For I dream I know not how! / And my soul is sorely shaken Lest an evil step be taken,- / Lest the dead who is forsaken / May not be happy now. ... This old barn has seen its better days ~ battered by years of storms and harsh winters and abandoned by the old farming families. Featured in Out Of The Past July 24, 2009. / Featured in Nature’s Reclamation July 23, 2009. Full Size Is Best Inspired by James Blunt’s I’ll Take Everything ... which I interpret to mean time. Took the long way home from the cabin the weekend of / July 11, 2009. I came east on Pennsylvania’s Route 30 … and somewhere between Bedord and Chambersburg I found this amazing abandoned farm house. What really struck me about this one is the wonderful additions added on to the main structure, which was not small to begin with. At one time, I like to think it was filled with a happy, growing family. Original image taken with the Nikon D300. 18-200mm vr Nikon lens, shutter 1/2000, aperture f/5.0, exp .33, iso 250. Duplicated twice in Photoshop to an eval of +/ 2 then all three put through Photomatic for a natural hdr treatment. Back to Photoshop for some fun with the sky color and some minute detail work that no one but me will ever see, lol. See Also … Yoooooo Hoooooo?? /
Featured in Sets of Two September 3, 2009. / Featured in Old Things – 2 per day August 6 2009. / Featured in Rural Around The Globe July 31, 2009. Best Viewed On Full Size It’s got that “Nobody’s Home” look … Back in the day when we wanted to visit, we tightened up our pincurls, tied our robes tight, slipped into our slippers, grabbed our coffee and walked next door. Although this wonderful old abandoned farm house is stuck out in the middle of (apparent) nowhere … it’s right smack dab ON route 30 just a bit west of Chambersburg, PA … and I like to think that the farm wives did visit back and forth, too. Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens on a bright and sunny, blue-skied July 12, 2009. Shutter 1/640, aperture f/11.0, exp -.33, iso 500. Post included Phun With Photoshop, levels, dodging, burning, selective coloring, in other words, the works, then addition of textures. Best on Full Size I’m always fascinated by architecture … especially that which has seen better days. The stories these buildings could tell!!! This wonderful old stairway is located to the side of Dilbert’s General Merchandise which, it is my understanding, is soon to be torn down. It is located in Pavia, Pennsylvania, just off route 869. I took this hand-held image on February 22, 2009, in freezing temps during a light snowstorm with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter was 1/125, aperture was 5.6, exp was .33, iso was 400. Post processing included hdr in Photomatix from 3 duplicated images at -/+2 eval. Companion piece to Dilbert’s General Merchandise

The house sits like her heart… Empty, once full of love and life, now the halls echo with the laughter..the joy of their love, Memories of happiness are all she has. He left for work that day with a kiss to her lips, a “I love you” on his way out the door, she waved to him out the window and blew him a kiss..if she only knew that would be the last time she tasted his kiss, felt his touch, she would never have let him go..The only relief out of all this pain and heartache is he didn’t suffer, when the truck hit his car head on, he died instantly. Now she waits, unable to leave their home, not wanting to go on, knowing that he waits for her..she prays for “HER” life after death, to be in his arms again, to feel his kiss, his touch, to make this house their home for eternity, the way it should have been..but again she wakes to the emptiness of the halls, the emptiness of their bed and of her heart..she goes to the window and like a movie played over and over agiain she sees him getting into his car..she pounds on the window..yells for him to STOP!!!..to COME BACK!!!...and like every day he pulls away and disappears into thin air…leaving her again.to her pain, and their empty house. Another abandoned house, Loved the blue color of this place. Nikon D90 / 18-200 mm VR lens
After spending the whole day with some fellow Keystone State group members at Rickett’s Glen, we descended on this old abandoned house on Route 487, a rural road near Benton, PA. The sun was already setting and it was perfectly dark and creepy just in time for Halloween! Taken 10/26/09 I combined two layers (dark and light exposure) to create this image.
