  • Long Beach Island, NJ / www.danadipasquale.com This shack has been near my childhood home since I can remember. It falls a little more every year, and recently was supposed to be torn down. But, the residents of the area rallied to get it declared a landmark because it was such a part of the way we recognized home. So I love this little guy. © Dana DiPasquale 2008. • The ring is on my hand, And the wreath is on my brow; / Satin and jewels grand Are all at my command, / And I am happy now. And my lord he loves me well; But, when first he breathed his vow, / I felt my bosom swell- For the words rang as a knell, / And the voice seemed his who fell In the battle down the dell, / And who is happy now. But he spoke to re-assure me, And he kissed my pallid brow, / While a reverie came o’er me, And to the church-yard bore me, / And I sighed to him before me, Thinking him dead D’Elormie, / “Oh, I am happy now!” And thus the words were spoken, And this the plighted vow, / And, though my faith be broken, And, though my heart be broken, / Here is a ring, as token / That I am happy now! Would God I could awaken! For I dream I know not how! / And my soul is sorely shaken Lest an evil step be taken,- / Lest the dead who is forsaken / May not be happy now. ... • Aren’t you glad this isn’t your home?? My husband and I drove by this abandoned house the other day. This is the first time I’ve been able to get inside one. Usually I’m toting the kids, and can only get a quick shot of the outside. Oh man, this place was TRASHED! But so fun to photograph! Unfortunantly, I didn’t have a tripod, nor was there really anything to use as one, so only a couple of my HDR shots didn’t turn out a complete blury. • An abandoned railyard.

  • This was shot in Arlington, WA. One of my favorite pics and the most featured, viewed and favorited of my works here on RedBubble. Thank you! / Using Photoshop, I adjusted the levels and saturation to bring out the colors. Three separate images were composited: old barn ruins, rainbow with tree and clouds. Clone stamped out a telephone wire as well. Trying something new, experimenting with my images in the Orton Style. Shot this with my Kodak Easy Share point & shoot camera. Brought it into Photoshop and added layers and different blending options as well as blur and sharpen. • Old rusted dump truck in the weeds…. DeKalb Mississippi….

  • Featured # 1 Artists of RedBubble February 20, 2009. I loved the look of the long, late afternoon shadows across the snow on this day. This old farmhouse on the knoll fascinates me every time I drive by … probably more so than any grand mansion ever could. It’s vacant now, has been for as long as I can remember … the torn-off porch was the last indignity. But somehow, love and laughter remain. It must have been a very happy home, once. Image taken on January 20, 2009 with the Nikon D40x, using the 18-200mm VR lens and the CP filter … along Route 97 near Glenwood, Maryland. Cloning of snow spots (from an earlier shoot) and levels and shadows & highlights were used in Photoshop, and the image was then put through Photomatix’s HDR process.

  • As I approached this abandoned place on the train line in Toowoomba a flock of birds took flight from the roof. They circled it for for a few minutes, enough time for me to get this shot. / ISO 200, f13, 1/125 with nd4 grad. / Converted to three exposures for hdr.

  • ARCHITECTURE IS WHERE YOU FIND IT / Architecture is to do with the designing of buildings and structures, but in its broader meaning it also includes the design of our complete built environment. It can be found in outback areas, on mountain peaks, almost anywhere on the land, even on the sea in the form of oil rigs and it surrounds us in our places of abode. We tend to take it for granted and complain when its appeareance doesn’t suit our taste. Architecture provides us with shelter, places to work, gives us points of reference in our urban wilderness, but most important of all, it provides a fundamental basis for the way we live. Architecture is ephemeral, can be a thing of great beauty, and its elements can be pillaged and used as building blocks by successive generations. Past civilizations are often known through their achievements in architecture and certain works have become cultural, political and artistic icons. Presumably a family once lived in this little house at Fernie, British Columbia. It now stands derelict and isolated, yet it seems to exist as a monument to the toil of hard working rural people anywhere. The image was captured during summer 2008 towards the end of a photographic journey through the Canadian Rockies. Thanks for taking the time to view my photos and feel free to comment. You are welcome to visit my photography website My most recent publication ‘ARCHITECTURE WITH CHARACTER’ includes images of this rural house. Click on image below for a preview.

  • Featured in Sets of Two September 3, 2009. / Featured in Old Things – 2 per day August 6 2009. / Featured in Rural Around The Globe July 31, 2009. Best Viewed On Full Size It’s got that “Nobody’s Home” look … Back in the day when we wanted to visit, we tightened up our pincurls, tied our robes tight, slipped into our slippers, grabbed our coffee and walked next door. Although this wonderful old abandoned farm house is stuck out in the middle of (apparent) nowhere … it’s right smack dab ON route 30 just a bit west of Chambersburg, PA … and I like to think that the farm wives did visit back and forth, too. Image taken with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens on a bright and sunny, blue-skied July 12, 2009. Shutter 1/640, aperture f/11.0, exp -.33, iso 500. Post included Phun With Photoshop, levels, dodging, burning, selective coloring, in other words, the works, then addition of textures. • This is the first of several shots that I took while in Adelaide over the weekend. This is a laneway off a main street in Adelaide city centre. It grabbed my attention as I walked past, the dilapidated building, the door, the lone milk crate. It gave me a creepy feeling, even though it was mid afternoon. So I put the powers of post processing to work, blanched out colour, selective colour and contrast adjustment on door and a bit of lighting effect. The contrast of dark and light to aid the scary mood of this one. This gave me the feeling that someone was being held here, against their will. Within reach of the public, but so well hidden no one knows they are there. This moment is when the search party looking for them for days, maybe weeks, finally gets the clue that leads them here. • Featured in Dimensions September 13, 2009. / Featured in HDR Photography September 3, 2009. / Featured in Image Writing (2/24) September 3, 2009. Best on Full Size I’m always fascinated by architecture … especially that which has seen better days. The stories these buildings could tell!!! This wonderful old stairway is located to the side of Dilbert’s General Merchandise which, it is my understanding, is soon to be torn down. It is located in Pavia, Pennsylvania, just off route 869. I took this hand-held image on February 22, 2009, in freezing temps during a light snowstorm with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter was 1/125, aperture was 5.6, exp was .33, iso was 400. Post processing included hdr in Photomatix from 3 duplicated images at -/+2 eval. Companion piece to Dilbert’s General Merchandise

  • Old door at the end of a stone vault, making for an interesting perspective view.

  • The house sits like her heart… Empty, once full of love and life, now the halls echo with the laughter..the joy of their love, Memories of happiness are all she has. He left for work that day with a kiss to her lips, a “I love you” on his way out the door, she waved to him out the window and blew him a kiss..if she only knew that would be the last time she tasted his kiss, felt his touch, she would never have let him go..The only relief out of all this pain and heartache is he didn’t suffer, when the truck hit his car head on, he died instantly. Now she waits, unable to leave their home, not wanting to go on, knowing that he waits for her..she prays for “HER” life after death, to be in his arms again, to feel his kiss, his touch, to make this house their home for eternity, the way it should have been..but again she wakes to the emptiness of the halls, the emptiness of their bed and of her heart..she goes to the window and like a movie played over and over agiain she sees him getting into his car..she pounds on the window..yells for him to STOP!!!..to COME BACK!!!...and like every day he pulls away and disappears into thin air…leaving her again.to her pain, and their empty house. Another abandoned house, Loved the blue color of this place. Nikon D90 / 18-200 mm VR lens

Best on Full Size “Burn down your cities and leave our farms, and your cities will spring up again as if by magic; but destroy our farms and the grass will grow in the streets of every city in the country.” / William Jennings Bryan (Orator and American Politician and Statesman … 1860 – 1925) Original image taken on Lower Snake Spring Road, off of Route 30, in Everett Pennsylvania on August 14, 2009 with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens at shutter speed 1/100, aperture f/13.00, exp .33, iso 400. Post processing included HDR processed in Photomatix Pro from a single hand held image duplicated to +/ 2 in Photoshop. Added texture and Orton also completed in Photoshop. Thanks once again to Canonman99 for his guidance on final processing technique.

  • After spending the day with some fellow Keystone State group members at Rickett’s Glen, we looked for “The House on the Left” on the way home. This old abandoned place is on Route 487, a rural road near Benton, PA. Taken 10/26/09 I combined two layers – one clear and one out of focus and an airbrush eraser to create this image.
