The little doll in this picture is much like my first Christmas doll. / When I opened the box she had beautiful, long locks, a gorgeous dress but I was never a dolly girl and within an hour of being given her, I had chopped her hair off, ripped her clothes off and painted her / ....... Perhaps I was a little peeved not getting more paints and coloured pencils and books for Christmas. Dad never said anything….but I remember he was very quiet and she was the first and last doll I got for Christmas ..lol! Dedicated to my father who passed away 9/15/08. Ephemeral: Lasting only one day. Lasting a very short time. I created this using various old images I had laying around and played with it in Photoshop. I almost feel like I should have a poem written for this piece, but alas, i am not a writer! Impressionist, painterly / Two boys doing what they do best in the rain. Originally impressionism was that the colour should be dropped pure on the canvas rather than mixed on the palette. Today, now that we have so many new paints and mediums to work with, while the original concept of impressionism remains the same, styles and techniques have evolved. / My style of Impressionism embraces traditional painting. It is the evolution of impressionism that i am hoping to achieve, from the original traditional techniques of impressionist painting all the way to this modern impressionist digital art which can be stylized and painterly depending on my subject and mood. My work is hand painted digital painting and is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. Digital painting differs from other forms of digital art, particularly computer-generated art, in that it does not involve the computer rendering from a model. The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer. / I create the painting, directly on my PC, by using a Wacom tablet, a stylus pen and ArtRage painting software. The Wacom tablet can be compared to a canvas or watercolor paper surface. The stylus pen is my paintbrush.

‘The Serpent Tree’ was inspired by the John Lennon song, ‘Woman’ / which he dedicated to all women everywhere This is a marked change to my normal work. I started my creative life as an artist, painting in oils. I tended to work on large canvasses. In much of my digital art I have been conscious of creating the ‘big scenes’, so this one is such a pleasing change for me. I have to say that I am excited about this change of style. On 16/12/09 This image has had 935 views and 239 comments I have created this for the Winter Whimsy Challenge which is in the enchanting Animal Fantasy and Whimsy Group. The challenge called for a creative portrayal of animals in the winter. I have so enjoyed creating this one. Whenever I make composites of animals it always makes me smile and feel incredibly happy. I chose the polar bears because I thought it would be fun to try and develop an image using largely white as the dominant colour (and I also thought that we would be seeing a great many reindeers in the coming month!) You now know where you are going and what you want to achieve. / Suddenly, on this path you come across your ‘Other’ the person you have been searching for, for ever. You feel as though you have just been shot in the heart with cupid’s arrow, so shocking, so painful is your “recognition” of this person. As you speak together, the feeling intensifies; like finding a missing part of yourself. You finish each others sentences, think the same thoughts. It is as if an angel above has introduced your souls to each other. Though it was your plan to follow the path of the flowering tree, you know you dare not leave this person behind. Like the fruit tree, the other will fulfill you . No matter how divergent from your original intent, your future is together and you head down a whole new road. Originally, this card was called just LOVE. And that’s actually more apt than “Lovers.” Love follows in this sequence of growth and maturity. And, coming after the Emperor, who is about control, it is a radical change in perspective. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can’t understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. In interpretation, the card indicates that you have come across, or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that they will fall in love with. You will know instinctively that you must have this, even if it means diverging from their chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it they will never be complete. In my 2010 Tarot, we know that the path of true love does not always prove to be an easy one, so I have added symbolic pieces to the image to suggest cracks and difficulties along the way. This card also says that we have to work very hard once we find true love – to keep it safe from harm. I wanted the sex of the lovers to be slightly ambiguous, but also to try and show that they are very much together, not quite clear where one begins and the other ends. Created totally in Photoshop CS4. I started by blending several textures together and then overlaying these with the background you can see. The models were overlaid with tree bark textures as I wanted them to have an organic, earthy feel. All the individual components added in and blended. Colour fill layers finally to unite it all together.
