Original digital photograph. Taken with a Sony Full HD 1080 Cyber Shot camera. Many people do not know (I didn’t until I went on this drive) that you can’t herd Buffalo, you drive them…the American Bison is our representation of the African Rhino…A full grown Male Buffalo can over turn a truck and kill a horse in the blink of an eye. I had it explained to me by one of the many professional drovers, that you have to make the “Lows” as they are called..think it is their idea to go in a certain direction… and you can’t push them like a herd of cattle…it is the hardest job on the face of this earth. A Cowboy can not get within 25 feet of the outside line because Buffalo have explosive tempers and pretty much hate horses. / Taking pictures of this drive was like filming an epic saga of history…it truly felt as if we were all in this time warp of 200 years ago. My husband and I were invited by the Gov. of South Dakota to help with the yearly Buffalo Roundup. This is an event that takes place every year to round up the 2000 plus herd of Buffalo of the Black Hills and take them over 25 miles to holding pens for vaccination, doctoring and culling. / This was the most awesome experience…all on horse back and photo opportunities of a lifetime. Impressionist, painterly / Two boys doing what they do best in the rain. Originally impressionism was that the colour should be dropped pure on the canvas rather than mixed on the palette. Today, now that we have so many new paints and mediums to work with, while the original concept of impressionism remains the same, styles and techniques have evolved. / My style of Impressionism embraces traditional painting. It is the evolution of impressionism that i am hoping to achieve, from the original traditional techniques of impressionist painting all the way to this modern impressionist digital art which can be stylized and painterly depending on my subject and mood. My work is hand painted digital painting and is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. Digital painting differs from other forms of digital art, particularly computer-generated art, in that it does not involve the computer rendering from a model. The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer. / I create the painting, directly on my PC, by using a Wacom tablet, a stylus pen and ArtRage painting software. The Wacom tablet can be compared to a canvas or watercolor paper surface. The stylus pen is my paintbrush.

What isn’t so obvious is the hardiness of this ancient breed. I love rainy, overcast, windy days. Someone has to, I suppose. The pink/purple of the fireweed has yet to reach its full splendor. As Alaskan legend has it, when fireweed blooms all the way to the top of its spire – the six-week countdown to winter begins. Some of us can hardly wait. It felt great to get out in the elements! The first impressionists took advantage of the introduction of premixed paints in tubes where paint is laid on an area of the surface very thickly, usually thickly enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. / Characteristics of impressionist paintings include visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing qualities effecting colour, the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception, and unusual visual angles. / Short, thick strokes of paint are used to quickly capture the essence of the subject, rather than its details. The paint is often applied impasto. / Colours are applied side-by-side with as little mixing as possible, creating a vibrant surface. The optical mixing of colours occurs in the eye of the viewer. / My form of impressionism starts with digital photography and I then develop this into my own art form and exploit the aspects of the digital painting medium embracing and showing the painterly aspect, rather than trying to hide the act of creation. My work is hand painted digital painting and is an emerging art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolor, oils, etc. are applied using digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software.
